how to remove silencer ring

Anyone have the thread bookmarked that shows how to remove the silencer ring?



I have a friend asking how to remove it and sending the link for the thread would save me from typing out a long email and hopefully there will be some pictures too.

Pull the air cleaner hose from the turbo and remove the snap ring that holds the silencer ring in and its done.

Be careful not to hit the turbine blades, or you will get the wheel out of balance and the turbo will fail. Removing the ring does nothing for performance, just adds noise.

Wierd but ever since I removed it I have not heard the whine.

Put a K&N or other aftermarket air filter in and pitch out the stock filter. It too quiets the turbo whine.

I'll remind him that taking it out just adds whine. I have mine installed and it'll stay there, I think he may be wanting to experiment a little.

With the RE-0880 it was soooo loud that it drove me nuts whenever I towed something. Needless to say it is back in. Sound like it did with the factory air box and ring removed.
