Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) How to spend $2000?

Gauges/pod/boost fitting should all be here tomorrow--thanks Wildcat, TST, and Piers.



Now I have the Ford ready to sell so "extra" money will be in hand soon. I'm planning on 275's and a PE Comp, so there goes a $1000. What next? SBC is the most obvious I think. 4" is a bit premature. I could play with the turbo, do the bed liner, add more gauges, pusher pump/line upgrades, etc.



I s'pect I'll learn more on where to go by monitoring the gauge setup, but thought we could kick it around on here--you know, in our spare time.

and BTW I drove the ford today (first time in 2 months) WHAT A SLUG!!! I thought, then I remembered to give it some R's and then I thought WHAT A WHEEZY SLUG! No more gassers for me.

Power Max 3 is the ONLY way to go on a 24 Valve in my opinion from now on! And you could have saved a buttload of money on gauges with the $100 optional remote/LED gauge's.



That buddy of mine that has the '02 3500 wants a Power Max 3, but I think he's realized that he will thrash(sp?) his clutch in no time if he gets it.



Not sure if you saw my KDP post, but I just went back up to BMD Tuesday. From my house to Tom's shop in 4 hrs flat going up! 3 hours and 45 minutes coming back!:--)



Planning on another trip too in a week or two. Gotta get timing done this time. This 17. 5 mileage game on the interstate if for the dawgs. :{



Wish I had $2LARGE just to spend. I would have already had the SBC Con O, TST # 10, 3K GSK, and AFE Mega Cannon. Really had to resist buying that last one while I was @ BMD. HARD! VERY HARD!:{

I was wondering about the 275's. Why not a new clutch and some DDIII's? Not ickin' your wow, but go for the power. I have a Comp, I guess I have to "upgrade" now?

On the Comp/gauges: I want timing too and I prefer separate gauges.



On BMD: I didn't ride in ANYBODY's truck. I wish I had! mebbe next year. Next year I may bring my bike and camp out and everything--looks like the Smoke stories got good around the campsite.



GS: Yeah, I wondered where you did the KDP. When I get the shop built--this fall maybe-- we can do a lot of CTD work right here in River City. It'll be a little shorter drive.



RD: I was hoping to use the stocker until it slips, that's really why 275's--and I was going to stretch it out over some time. Cause if I get III's right off I KNOW that a PDR 40 is next. Oo. And then it's going to get downright $$$ from there. You know with the twins and 5" etc.

$2K, huh? Already got gauges, huh? Heck, I'd go whole hog and get the Comp ($575), the DDII's ($550), upgrade your intake to a ScottyII ($199) or equivalent, straight pipe your exhaust ($70) and then save the rest so you can add to it and get a SB clutch ($640 + labor) in the not too distant future...



But that's just me.



BTW, where in the Tennessee hills are you? I grew up just west of Knoxville.

Unfortunately $2000 doesn't take you very far. I'd get gauges, a ez, 275's, 4" exhaust and a high flow air filter if I was limited to $2000. Next you can do the clutch, the exhaust brake, tires/wheels, upgrade the fuel system, bed liner, mud flaps, etc. That's going to take a few thousand more.

RT: Okay I GOT gauges (they just haven't arrived yet) so that money doesn't come out of the 2K.



I also already have the BHAF and only a resonator on the pipe.



DP, I'm not in the REAL hills I'm just two counties East of Nastyville. Woodbury-between Murfreesvegas and McMinnville, just North of Manchester. Cannon Co, population 12,800--Just like the TDR!

In that case, forget what I said about straight-piping and getting the Scotty II or equivalent... you just saved yourself $270! Ha!



That should put you in range for a Southbend clutch to hold all that twist that you'll be generating with a Comp and DDII's.



Next on my list would be fuel system upgrades, then wheels and tires. First thing's first. Durability is always better than looks, in my opinion. YMMV.

Yeah, the clutch is looking like the way to go, but I just put a clutch in the Ford and haven't fully recovered yet. (on the floor by meself)



And I'm real happy with the factory Al wheels, but I could use some tires--ESPECIALLY after I put a clutch in. Don't worry I'll make some BIG HAIRY BURNOUT photos when that day comes.

If it was me.....

I would get a set of either BD/DD3's (2's if you tow). Next would be a Edge Drag Comp. The remaining would go towards the clutch (a con fe if it were me). Then I would save like crazy to get that turbo and exhaust. By the way any major fueling box and 275's will slip the stock clutch, without control, so why not get bigger injectors and leave the box switched off until the clutch.

So now the list is COMP/III's/SBC that arta eat up a 2k bill. Shucks that was easy.

I heard Tom take the first group of guys for a ride, I was the next person in line! When I peeled myself outta Tom's seat it was time for a ride in Daniel's CTD to actually ride in a CTD that had STACKS![insert drool mouth here] Yeah next year I will definately be camping overnight.



Keep me posted on "the shop" I'm liking the sound of that!
