Is their a way to distinguish a 47RE from a 48RE? The warranty paper I got with my transmission states it is a 48RE. I bought the truck second hand and the only document I have is the warranty. Will a 48 even fit in a 2001. 5 truck?

I think all the factory/dealer replacements are 48's. They use the same insides, just a different valve-body? When I was looking for a transmission, I could get 2 different ones from Dodge. The old style for 2800 and the updated one for 3800. The guy told me the old style only warrantied for 1 year or 12K miles. The updated one had a 3 year 60K mile warranty.

That tells me the updated one was probably a 48 with a 47 compatible valve-body.
