Two scenarios:

1. By the old VIN numbering system, you actually have a 1994-1997 truck in which somebody dropped an HO engine into. ;) :D

2. I know that the 2003's (and must be for your 2002 as well), the C in the 8th digit (read left to right) means C = 5. 9L 6 cyl. Turbo Diesel High Output. Whew! :D

whoo, you all most had me there for a minute! :--) NOT!:p

Could be it's a CanuckleHead truck... . ;)

VIN

This is how mine reads.

VIN

3B7KF23C92M224456

3 = Country of origin – Mexico

B = Make – Dodge

7 = Vehicle Type – Truck

K = Gross Weight – 8,001 – 9,000 lbs.

F = Vehicle Line – Ram Cab Chassis/Ram Pickup 4x4x

2 = Series = Ram 2500

3 = Body Style – Quad Cab 4-door

C = Engine 1998+ - (not listed) should be 5. 9 Liter I6 HO Diesel

9 = check digit

2 = Model Year – 2002

M = Assembly Plant = Lago Alberto Assembly

224456 = Serial Number – 224456

Does this mean I can post on the Power Stroke forum now ;)

Only if you change the "B" to an "F"; then write how happy you are that your truck has 3,000 miles on it and everything is fine!!!

Off of Dave Fritz's site to help you guys...

On Edit...

Here is a couple of more things to look at from his site to help you find out. Upon a call to a friend who works for a dealership to check this also confirmed that NO 01 6spds were made that were not H/O's. 2000 was the first year for the 6spd and they were not H/O's. If it has a 6spd and its not a H/O it is not a 01 but it is a 00 model. Hope this helps... ... ... Andy

How to tell if it's an HO?

Simple. If she doesn't demand constant attention and pampering. Doesn't require pimping with the latest little doodads, e. g. Issopro gauges, XM radio, fueling box, chipped, FASS, stainless exhaust, ebrake, humongous tires, mag wheels, and etc. . Doesn't require a big payment every month.

Then shes not a HO. :D

OK. Back from looking at the truck. It's an auto.

Salesman was a confused type person. "Sorry, I must have been thinking of a different truck when I told you it was a HO/6spd. "

But anyway, thanks for all the info.

don't you just hate that, how do they keep their job? i would have walked right into the sales managers office and made sure he knew he wasted my time!

I agree

I totally agree with Holes!!! There is no excuse for ignorance and misleading the public.

The only other way to tell if it is a HO, is to drive to the South West side of town, at approx. 10pm, roll down the window and yell... HO'e, HO'e, HO'e !! If a "skanky" chick comes up to you , you will know for sure you have a "HO". Worked for me... :D :D :rolleyes: :eek: Oo.

That sales turd is so full of BS I can smell him clear out here in frozen PA. He made no mistake, other than thinking he could shove something down your throat once you got there.

I would have been having a "discussion" with his "boss" in the middle of the sales floor. :-{}
