Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) How to tell if its an HO

Buddy just bought a 2001 3500 4wd Made in 04-2001 It has the black valve cover, its rated 245 HP on the engine tag and has a 6spd. It doesn't say anything about it on the option label in glovebox. It also has 3. 54.

That is a High Ouput. In those years in, the 2nd gen trucks, the only way you could get a 6-speed (except for 2000 I beleive) is to get the high output. I have a HO as well and there is nothing that indicates it is a HO. The Standard outputs are autos and 5sp. and put 235hp. you only get 10hp and 50ft of torque

Yes all the '01 and up trucks with 6 speeds are H. O. engines. i happen to have a rare non-H. O. 6 speed made in 2000.
