How do you tell? is it in the serial #??? Someone let me know, as a person I know has a 98. 5, and I have warned her about it. thanks,

They are about 1. 5 inch numbers cast into the block. below the injector pump, just above the oil pan and kinda behind the power steering pump. If she is a member of the #53 club, tell her welcome and don't fret about it... . there is nothing she can do;)
 
A small number of these most common blocks have cracked on the passenger's side, down near the rear, causing an antifreeze leak.



As a 53 block owner, I ain't gonna worry about it until something happens. My truck had 50,000 hard miles put on it before I bought it used, and it's still just fine.



You can drive yourself crazy worrying about something that hasn't happened yet, and that is unlikely to happen. :D
 
Here's a good pic..........

It was easy to get as the block was sitting on a pallet at the time. I don't think it was a cracked block that destroyed this one though.
