The service manual specifies driveline procedures for various types of axels - how do I tell which one I have? It has procedures for 216 & 248 FBI axels, 248 & 267 RBI axels, 286 RBI axel, and 9 1/4 rear axel.

The Dodge numbers are the metric equivalents (or close) for the ring gear diameters.

248 mm = 9. 75" = Dana 60 = 4x4 front end

267 mm = 10. 5" = Dana 70 = rear, Ram 2500 automatic

286 mm = 11. 25" = Dana 80 = rear, Ram 2500 stick, all 3500s.
