how to tell which plant truck was built?

Is there any general geographic region that trucks built in mexico are deliverer to vs the USA plant? is it clearly marked on the ID tag or doorframe?

Is there a higher product defect rate at either plant?



I live in Calif. Am I more or less likely to get a truck made south of the border?

It says on the door tag where its made. Hope you get one made in Mexico, they seem to have less defects according to a survey done here by people reporting on their truck quality. Both of mine were mexico trucks and seemed good trucks. I think Mexico workers try real hard to do good because there is about 1,000,000 guys wanting their job because its a great job down there and there isnt any Unions keeping bums from getting fired.

I've had a 97 1/2 ton and my current 01 3/4 ton were both made in mexico. It says where they were built on the bottom of the window sticker on a new truck. The place where i bought mine located in St. Louis mo, they had both mexico and usa built trucks.

It's also coded in the VIN number

Look at first number of the vehicle ID. If it is a 1, then it is built in the US. If it is a 3, then it is built in Mexico.

Mine has a little sticker on one of the windows I believe... "Proudly built in St. Louis MO"??

Ok that's weird My vin comes up with all the numbers makin sense, but the 8th which is D, and based on the chart klenger attached it should be a C. The D represents a 1998 5. 9 I6 Diesel? Anyone else with a 97 have this? By the way mine was made in St. Louis.....

Is it the color of the paint?

My dealer a few years ago told me that the paint color of the truck determined where it would be assembled. Mine was red and the paint shop for a red truck was in Mexico. I have always wondered. Green or blue was in St Louis and I forget the others. Anybody know if this is true? Regards,Lynn
