how can the p7100 pump be turned up, without changing out the plate. i've heard reference to the star wheel, and sliding the plate. (can't afford a different plate as of now) how can this be accomplished, and are any exhaust/ intake mods required, (i really just want a lot of smoke for now :D ) thanx

also what should i have my timing set at, only want maybe 350 ponies max. ? :D

you can slide the stock plate foward. If I remember right, a stock 215 pump can make like 230 at the rear wheels with the plate slid foward a little (like. 030 or something).

you can also loosen the starwheel, turn it towards the front of the truck. you can also do some AFC adjustments if you know how to make them. you can move the foot foward in the housing, allowing more off boost fuel.

another method, while not an option on my truck, is to pull the plate. I am not gonna do it, but if you are daring and want lots more smoke (and possibly broken stuff in your pump), this will do it. ;)

You can't really turn up a P-pumped truck. If you want hp, try to find a newer truck with a VP or common rail. ;)

you know you cant just say that without getting the attention of others.

commonrail might be good but the vp can get spendy.

you can grind your plate to add fuel. its free and effective- need clutch soon :-laf. extra valves can get to a persons head sometimes. :-laf

I have an extra plate laying around. If you are squeemish I would be happy to mill it flat for you if you will trade your stock one back to me, shipping would be minimal.

We P7100 owners are pretty protective of our reputation ;)

But your comment sure did get some notice! Kinda funny.

I am surprised no one mentioned installing boost and EGT gauges first before playing with the P7100. I am all for sliding the plate forward your grinding your own, but you need to monitor your boost and temp readings.

Star wheel controls spring tension against the diaphram in the afc housing. If it is set loose the lever can travel forward at lower boost and increase fueling. Tightening it will cause the lever to stay back untill boost level goes up. Less smoke on bottom if tight, more smoke on bottom if loose.

But less throttle response on the bottom if tight, a bit more throttle response on the bottom if loose. Smoke vs response is the trade off when fiddling with the star wheel.

re: diddlng the star wheel ... someone posted an :eek: post awhile back. If I remenber right, the story goes something like this ... He put a 16cm housing on his 35. All seemed ok until he hooked up the 5'er. He got into a situation where he had to start out "up an incline" ... in or near the campground. I think he had an auto. He couldn't build any boost & had to get towed a short distance by a Ford. :{
