My brother in law has a 2005 3500 with the factory navigation option. What needs to be done to upgrade the unit? Is there a disc to do the update or is he stuck going to the dealer?

Thanks.

Its a Disc, I don't know the Part # off hand , Shop around I paid $20. I don't Like to piratize but $200. 00 form the Dealer is just out right to much.

Received in the mail today the flyer to update my NAV CD for two Franklins, what is the difference in the AF vs. AG versions of the CDs?

AF version: Get accurate directions to wherever you travel including new roads, new sub-divisions, and current addresses. New and expanded coverage in over 117 cities and metropolitan areas across the continental United States and Canada. You can confidently drive through unfamiliar or recently changed areas. This exciting new update provides an updated list of over 8. 8 million Points of Interest to help you find the way to where you want to go quickly and efficiently.

AG version: Get accurate directions to wherever you travel including new roads, new sub-divisions, and current addresses. New and expanded coverage in over 130 cities and metropolitan areas across the continental United States and Canada. You can confidently drive through unfamiliar or recently changed areas. This exciting new update provides an updated list of over 8. 8 million Points of Interest to help you find the way to where you want to go quickly and efficiently.

Seriously, you cannot tell me it is the difference of 13 cities.

Yeah, $200 for the update is a ripoff plain and simple. You can get a Garmin Nuvi for $200, with maps... . and an infinitely more user friendly interface and much better map detail. I can't remember how much it costs to update Garmin's maps, but is sure isn't $200 when you can buy a new unit for that same amount of money.

It may only be a difference of 13 cities BUT the rest of the difference could also be an update of road names due to 911 addressing changes and more accuracy regarding the type of a road - ie: paved now/before dirt or cowpath to hell.

I have an 06... ..... is the 2009 disc available? Nobody, dealer or NAV manufacturer has ever contacted me offering a disc update.

there were 2 models of nav one shows a graphic map display while the other only shows turn by turn info(arrows and distance to turn) in other words no map but everything else the same

Ok now I understand well this disk does both I have tested it in my 08 and it tell's you turn left in 1/2 mile and show's on the screen at same time

My 2006 has the REC Navigation unit. As far as I know the REC was used in the 2006 to current model trucks, or at least that's what's in a 2009 I saw the other day on a dealers lot.

I have yet to install/use my NEW disc, will be trying it out this weekend.

I have The RB4 in my 04. 5 Dually. I do not care for it at all. When I bought it new the dealer did not tell me that there wasn't any Alaska info on it and it was weak for western Canada. I live in Alaska and we drive to Yuma each October and return in march. That was the reason I got it for this 4,000 mile trip. It works for the lower 48 states pretty good. Now I was reading in the thread above that the RB4 isn't compatible for a Ipod hookup either. Dodge really put out a piece of C--- in this unit. Now I will have to get an after Market Radio/ CD unit for the truck. I got a $186. 00 ipod nano 16 gig generation 4 for Xmas and now I don't know how many hundres of dollars it will cost me to replace the RB4. Some days are a real bummer. I use a 12" laptop with a Garmin usb18 for my navigation now so the RB4 is not used at all.

The RB1 will do the Job,but you will also need the Adapter Kit. I have it ,and it works flawless. If MrCD1 does not have the conversion kit for the RB4 you will be hard pressed to find someone who does.

In the middle of this thread is an "RB1/RB4" comparison that MR. CD-1 has come up with. The RB4 he states "will not" be able hook up to an IPOD.
