Did I have a Great week last week...

What piston is this?

Get off work last night and, after dinner, I'm driving home on surface streets following a Honda SUV. Doing about 30 mph when I hear a pop and see a spray of glass inside the Honda.

WTF??? I think the airbag must have gone off. The Honda slows and then stops. A women gets out and she is covered in blood and screaming for help.

I get out and see she has a head wound and LOTS of blood. Grab my roll of Scott towels and check her out. She has a 4" groove wound in her temple above her eye that looks like someone used a wood chisel on her.

After 10 mins on the phone waiting for 911 I get through and 2 minutes later the paramedics arrive and then the cops.

They close off the street for a couple of blocks either way and 20 cops check out the place.

There's a bullet lodged in her headliner above the rear seat. Last I heard she is OK - if she had nodded or checked the radio, she'd be DOA.

I'm still freaked out, shakey and couldn't sleep much last night.

Didn't see a flash or anyone driving off fast - sure hope we don't have a copycat sniper.

A few years ago on Christmas Eve, (of all nights for this to happen) I witnessed a drive by shooting.

The road we were on had an accident on it, so we were directed down a side street, the car in front of me slowed and stuck his hand out the drivers window and opened fire on a group of people standing on a front porch with a fully automatic weapon.

NOT one person was hit!!!! And they did catch the guy a few minutes later.

Stray round

Sounds like a stray round from a shooting nearby- We hear much of the out of control LA crime rate- Bratton is from my alma mater- NYC and I hope he can put a lid on the growing anarchy out there as Police Chief. He and Giulani combined to clean up NY big time in the nineties. There was a little known case in NYC where a young woman in a car on the Belt Parkway which runs along Rockaway Bay suddenly slumped over the wheel and coasted off the road dead. The ME pulled a British . 303 rifle round from behind her ear. After some of the best detective work of the century an arrest was made of a fisherman who fired a round from a surplus SMLE Enfield at a shark several hundred yards offshore- it skipped off the water and had just enough velocity when it hit land to go through her window and get in behind the ear. Freakish. DO not know the outcome but it was negligent homicide at best. This LA woman is plenty lucky unless she was the target and isn't yet out of the woods.

This happened on Ventura Blvd in Encino - not one of the hot spots for a shooting.

I've been thinking about it all day and think it came from a car coming from the opposite direction or even one ahead of her.

Wish I'd had the smarts to look at the vehicles around me instead of the one involved directly in front.

Using everything I learned from watching CSI the bullet had a rise of 8-10" over about 6 feet.

Makes me worry about a sniper style deal as that would put it at shooter window level and very close or trunk (like the sniper) and a little further away.

When my house was broken into, the town cops were here in 1-2 minutes!!!

I hardly think this compares to the shooting as an emergency. (However I did dial it in on 911)

I believe they'd be here sooner if it were a shooting.
