Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Importance of good fuel filtering

I put a tag3 in my truck because I had turbo surge. It didn't eliminate the surge but it moved it to a higher boost and made the truck much more drivable. At first it didn't help much with low end spool up. Till one day I pulled it out to show some friends after reinstalling it spool up was better then before and my surge is even less and push the surge even high up on the boost gauge. With the way my truck is now I can force my truck in to a surge at a very low rpm and pulling high boost or when pulling heavy and boost above 35psi.

as far as robbing power I bet it doesn't rob much, I made 556 hp on the dyno with it and a dirty air filter.

Over all I like it because it helps my over all driveability. It does work but how well will depend on your truck set up and were is it placed in the intake tube make a huge difference. The talk about MPG I can't add or commit on, but if you can get the turbo to spool faster and easer you would think your engine would be more efficient with a little more air

The TAG difference is subtle but noticeable.

- Quieter turbo

- slightly quicker spool up.

- smoother feeling <-- subjective, I know

I've taken it out and put it back in a few times, and I can tell the difference. I've spent a lot more money on Stanadyne Performance. Can't say that I feel the difference with a fuel additive, but I believe it's helps.

I don't know if the muffler bearing helps, but I'm leaving it in, just in case:D

If anybody is interested I have a friend that would let you try his tag out for $75. He is just too cheap, and company pays for his fuel. He would rather use the $75 for something else. PM me if interested

Do you think the plastic "air straighteners" in the 06 tube between the air box and the turbo do about the same thing?
No, but the turning vanes do seem to help get the air to make the sharp bend leading into the turbo. On 04. 5 and newer trucks using the TAG-III, we do see slightly better performance of the TAG-III by trimming the turning vanes in the elbow and leaving them in place. About 1" of the vanes on the turbo side need to be trimmed to allow installing the TAG-III.
