I had a two wheel drive with summer tires and it would get stuck in the rain. I put wrangler work horse tires and about 300lbs in the bed and it would go anywhere I wanted to go in the winter. I now have 4WD and Michelins Summer tread and use 4WD any time it snows. I truly believe tires and driving skill makes it or breaks it. I work for Minnesota DOT as a plow driver and I will tell you the first thing rolled over in the ditch is ALWAYS 4WD! High range should never be used for bad roads, if you need 4wd you should drive according to conditions. It gives unskilled drivers a false sense of security.

Weight and good tires make winter driving quite do-able just need a little fear of being stuck or !!! Had two 4x4's sure went fast on ice didn't stop near as good learned that all in about 10 min. , talked to person who worked for power utillity up north drove a 4x4 he said never in 4whdr. until you were stuck, no sence getting into to much trouble as help was a long way away. Before retirement worked for Hwy's dept (same as MOT) we only had 2whdr. went everywhere deep snow, ice, mud,no matter allways made it just have to know when to giveer, slowdown, suckair between your teeth and hangon or Giveup. the common sense thing Laurie
