Does anyone have a sales brocheure for the 2003 Ram Diesel.

I am trying to find out what the advertised HP and torque are for the standard output engine.

My truck has no power and nothing can be found wrong by the dealer or the Dodge rep.

Dyno test shows

HP 185. 4

Torque 316. 8

I have pulled my 4800 lb camper with another truck like mine (same gears and standard output ) and found it to have much more power and runs quieter.

This truck has been in the shop seven times and The dealer is trying to work with me but Dodge is not.

I might have to start action on the lemon law.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Richard Kennedy

Thanks for the help.

Is this also the advertised figures in the dodge brcheure.

If so it looks like I will be having another go with Dodge.

Cummins changed the specs after '03, initally they had the '03 CA trucks listed as 235HP and 460 Torque, and the non CA SO listed at 250HP and 450 Torque. Not sure if the '03s are the initial spec and '04s are what is listed or not.

Thanks again for all the help

Since I posted my question I found out that the HP and torque where messured at the rear wheels.

The fly wheel mesurement was

HP 246

Torque 440

This is still 20 FT lb's low on torque.

I was told that it should be around 188 HP and 372 torque but I don't know if this is SO or HO or if it's wrong all together.

A chassis dyno is never going to read the full advertised H. P. and torque for our trucks because the intercooler can't do it's job when the truck isn't moving through the air. This makes a big difference and while some shops may place a large fan in front of the truck, it doesn't come close to whats happening when your driving down the road.

Thanks Scotty I had not thought of the intercooler at all and I can sure see your point. As of right now the dealer is trying to work with Chrysler but can't get them to respond. I hope they will start trying new parts soon Pressure sensor map sensor or even the control moduale. I did had more power before they reprogramed the computer for TSB discribing lack of power It went down rather than UP.

You're sure it is an engine problem? To me those numbers didn't look that bad (I thought actual RWHP was usually 50-100 less than advertised), and sometimes going over the obvious helps in these situations. Is yours a stick or auto? Would it help to write to Cummins, see what they thought?

Maybe take it to the local Cummins shop and let their techs look it over. It will cost you a little, but they'd probably be more likely to discover any problems.

Rich, how many miles on your rig, have you changed your fuel filter recently , if not might be worth a shot, doesn't take much for power to start falling off!!

I have around 11,000 miles on my truck at this time. Although I was disapointed in the power when I first pulled my camper the big power loss came after a reflash of the computer.

TSB 18-027-03 dated 7/4/03. This was to give more power not less. It did fix a no throttle when first started.

The numbers I quoted were from the Cummins site in July of '03. They changed the torque numbers around September so both SO's had the same torque listed, 460.

I work at a dodge dealer and I run a mustang 250 all wheel drive chassis dyno at a mile high elevation. never have I seen torque that low. I've tested over 200 trucks. You lose hp through drivetrain but gain torque through gear ratio. Those specs would make me very upset. Speaking of upset. I love to show the ford and chevy guys the dodges torque curves compared to their V8s. ps. You have to make sure the persons testing your truck on a dyno chassis know what their doing. Putting in the wrong weight and HP@50 numbers and wrong gear ie one to one on the trans will give you numbers that are not even close.
