Doing the upgrade NOW will save you money later when the whole transmission takes a dump. Not saying it will and of course, nobody can tell you how long your transmission will last since we don't know how you drive and what you tow and so on but, a little preventive maintenance goes a long way. Oh, if you are wondering if I modified my transmission yet, no I haven't... ... ... . But! Come the 28th CSCPUSHER will be doing a TC/VB install on my Dodge. If you cruise mostly freeway miles and have an easy foot and never tow anything, don't do the upgrade. If you do it anyway, it will make it last longer yet, so it is a owner's call. Good luck with your decision.

Your right it does matter how you drive. I grew up on a farm and I do know if you drive things like your raceing all day nothing will stand up and I mean nothing. I know guys that have towed heavier weights then in my signature and with the pre 98 auto trans (less clutchs in pack) and have gone 150,000 to 200,000 miles before they puked and they towed in OD. I have also heard of people getting more miles out of there auto, don't now them just heard of them so can not verify. I drive conservative useing 3/4 throttle and OD locked out until I reach cruiseing speed then slip it into OD. For reasons above is why I was asking about HP. Thanks for the response, keep them comeing people.

I read some where that the stock auto transmission could survive up to 265 HP. I was wondering is that braked (fly wheel) HP or rear wheel HP. I know I should do the auto upgrade but finance, spring rush, and the old moto of: (if it isn't broke don't fix it) keep me from doing the upgrade.
Thanks, Ron

I think the weakest link in my auto trans for towing or hauling is the torque converter in lock up.
I tow a three horse Bumper pull and haul a big blunt front end slide in camper.
Last summer I noticed that on the level, on cruise control at 65mph it would feel like the wind was buffeting me. But there was no wind. Eventually I figured out that it was the TC slipping slightly.
I also climb the Big Horn Mountains loaded quite frequently. I found the easiest way was to lock out the OD and let the TC lock up in 3rd. I could slow down to 25 on the hair pins and then pick the speed back up with out it unlocking. I never noticed the TC slip doing this.
I installed an EZ and went up the Big Horns empty. Slipped the TC terrible. Could see it on the tack.
I installed Bill Kondolay's valve body. CURED EVERY THING.
I don't know how long I could have run around the country with it slipping, but it probably would have destroyed itself pretty soon.
