Put in some new sticks over the weekend. DAP 75 HP. I was afraid to go larger with a stock turbo. I tow quite a bit. I have only taken my smarty to level 7. Did that yesterday. That put a smile on my face. Hit 100 passing on the highway in a hurry. My question is how much HP do you think I have now? transmission has been modified. I have triple disk torque converter with modifications done to the valve body. Running a bit better the stock lift pump. Not good enough. WOT was about 7 psi. Not doing that again until I upgrade. Suggestions would be good. Thinking about Raptor 150. I turned the smarty back to 3. Seems to be a happier place until I upgrade fuel. Enough for my general use.

I don't know anything about a Smarty, but I would guess about 400 hp. 235+75+90 (level 7) = 400

My '01 dyno's at 400 with RV's and Edge Juice. 245+30+120 (level 5) = 395 hp.

Hey Joseph -- Similar to Nick, I have an '02 (auto) with Juice Edge and I'm going to upgrade the injectors to RV275 or PDR 50hp or PDR 75hp. The RV275 are proven but are newer injectors better (8 hole vs 5 hole in this case)?

Does this warrant upgrading the HY35 turbo to an HX40 or S300? PDR Diesel is down the road from me so they're convenient to deal with and I'll use one of their solutions.

It's generally for camping (slide-in camper plus trailer) and towing so the I'm mainly about fuel economy and exhaust gas temperatures. I run the Juice Edge at 2 (tow) which gives me the best economy. There's a lot of mountain passes in BC.

I had an Ottomind tapping the pump. Had the whole banks power pack. Started having issues with it defueling. I disconnected the tap. I like the exhaust. Runs way better now without pump tap. I left the Ottomind hooked up so I still have gauges. Turbo will be coming soon. I need to find a another truck of the same vintage. Mine is beat to hell. It was stolen, and I got it back looking pretty rough. Took the insurance money instead of fixing. Mechanically it is awesome. Rusting badly, and a blown tire took out the rear quarter panel. I will be looking for a whole truck bed soon and need to replace the dash, and all the doors. Truck runs way better than it looks.

I have had great success with installing a Wicked Wheel 2 right after installing an upgraded Thoroughbred Diesel VP, Airdog, and RV275 injectors, all for towing a large fifth wheel. The trans has been upgraded internals and Hughes triple disc installed. This is a must for sure. I ran the system for a couple of days, while waiting for the WW2 to show up, and let the computers learn what I had already installed. Yes, fueling definitely improved but obviously EGT's were, let's say, above average, lol. I knew I would have to take it ez til the WW2 showed up. I'm an experimental kinda guy. I installed the WW2 here in my garage. It was fun but a little stressful. It takes focus definitely. Don't drink beer with this project. It was the first turbo I performed surgery on, and yes, it's the stock Hx35. After installing the WW2, and letting everything relearn, and work in harmony together, I was positively impressed how everything worked together. HP, torque, economy, and yes economy improved. EGT's came way back down. The fun factor of driving my baby increased quite a bit. I would heavily recommend cleaning ALL your grounds, applying di-electric grease at all connections, including computers, and underhood fuse box connections. That made a HUGE difference and capitalized on all the new upgrades. Point being, keep the big picture in mind when upgrading fueling and electronics. Second, if you don't have the bucks to put in a nice, shiny new turbo, $300 or so, for a WW2 is a very viable option. So far, because of the compilation of parts, and strategy to improve performance and reliabilty, HP and definite torque increase, I have no plans to ditch the stock turbo for a new, shiny turbo I would essentially have to start over with strategically. I have no idea what my horsepower #'s are. Sure, I would like to run down to a shop and see how the numbers ended up. What I do know is that my truck is happy with the plan I executed. And you all know, when the wife is happy, life is happy. Good luck, and have fun. Now you can drink a beer or two.
