Strongly recommend you tap the thermocouple BEFORE the turbo to get the most accurate readings. The turbo extracts heat and the temp differential pre-and post turbo will vary depending on the engine loading situation.



The exhaust runners are separate - there are actually two of them (carrying 1/2/3 and 4/5/6) separated by a casting. So don't tap in the middle - you need to offset the hole and get in the center of the runner to miss the center casting.
 
If you unbolt your turbo and back it off half an inch you can see the casting and makes placement that much easier. I back my turbo off, and wedged a piece of cardboard in there to prevent any shavings accidently falling in there. I didn't do the grease thing, I just vacuumed it real good and ran my finger inside with a little oil on it to gather the very fine stuff.



Remember to drill slowly, let the bit do the work don't push to hard. good luck!
