Well i purchased a Htb2 62/12 compared to my old hx40/16 your turbo seems to be running 200-300 degrees hotter under normal driveing. This turbo uses more psi under the the same conditions with the higher egt's. Pulling the same hill 75mph with lawn trailer in tow Htb2 30psi 1100-1200egt With the hx40/16 i was running about 15psi-20psi max I would see 800-900 egt. Over all this turbo has great low rpm responce it just seems that once it reaches 2000 rpm things start to heat up as to where the hx40 cooled more. On the interstate when i go to pass some one things heat up alot faster. With the Hx40 70mph 600-800egt Now Htb2 800-900egt all the time dosen't go below that unless you coast I need help did i purchase to small of a turbo or wrong size exhaust turbine

I have a II PS62/12 and absolutely love it with my setup. My cruise temps at 60 to 62mph are 600 to 700 degrees. I have towed up to 6000 pounds with it and my EGT's have never gone over 1250 under any circumstance up to 3500rpm. I do have larger injectors, but no pump wire tap and I have a mild cam.

hth,

Dan

you may want to try a 14- the 12 may be a little small for your set-up, you can see in my sig. what i run and it get a little hot at times.

I run htb2 62/14 with 100 hp sticks ,drag comp box, with 14000lb 5er in tow my temps on hills about 1150 it's a sweet set up for towing ;)

I think what you are seeing is normal when comparing it to a HX40/16. The main reason, as already suggested, is the 12 housing. The 14 housing will probably help get temps closer to your HX40/16.

You don't want to mess with an HX40 of any sorts unless there's been some work done on putting a much better shaft in it. Got with HTT or II - somebody that has put some brains behind making power and moving air efficiently. You won't regret your decision.

Don't kno why people knock the 40 so much. Stock or modded. May not always be the best choice for a lot of folks, but mine has treated me well over the years.

yup, I beat the snot out of my balanced stock 40 for ~35k miles at 42psi... wasn't easy on it by any stretch. zero problems.

and you can't put an "upgraded" shaft in them FYI, there's only one HX40 turbine wheel

Ditto. I've been running an HX40W from HTT and love it! There must be a huge difference between HTT's and a stock HX40 because mine is far from being slow to spool. It also starts building boost at very low rpms which I like. Mine runs 40-42 psi. and hasn't been babied either.

all of the snapped shaft problems were happening when the HX40 was kinda "the" upgrade turbo for these trucks... guys were doing all kinds of crazy stuff to them... Majestic use to lighten the wheels by bulleting the end of the shaft... every one that snapped was lightened...

then you had Kurt who was doing stuff like cutting 12cm HX35 housings and sticking the 40 turbine wheel in them... snapola...

they don't like being accelerated quickly... I'm betting if you hit a well balanced 40 with a big shot of nitrous, you'd snap the shaft in no time.

but for a mild 400ish rwhp truck, they're a great turbo that can be had pretty cheap.

after selling my stock 35, I had $250 in my 40 :D

How would a 40 work for my application? Should I get a PDR 40 or one from HTT or what?

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack...

I may have found the reason for my higher Egt's i did not have the intercooler boots fully tight On my test drive temps were down some But went pass a car and poped one of the boots off I guess its time for some upgraded silicon boots

Spraying the hoses on the inside where they clamp up, and fresh clamps, should hold as well. That is what I did, and no problems at all.

Use hairspray.

And yes with a shot the HX-40's will snap the shaft.

A decent one is the PDR HX-40/16, for street trucks. Keep you eye on the shaft play and when it's getting sloppy send it for a refurbishing..... Its a good turbo if you keep your eye on it.

Get more serious with the fuel though, consider an upgrade
