HTT exhaust manifold problems

Tore my truck apart and was going to install my new HTT exhaust manifold this morning. Not a chance in hell the stock heater core hose bracket will work. Center section webbing prevents it from being able to move close enough to the manifold bolt mount. Also, stock bolts will not work for the two center ports since center section is thicker. Looks likes they included two allen headed bolts which solves the problem but did it occur to them that they need to include four of them, two for each of the two ports?



I'm not afraid to tweak parts and even do a little fab but for christ's sake, it would be freakin nice to know these things before tearing your truck apart on a Sat morning expecting to have it back together in a couple hours. Would also be nice if the manufacture would tell you things ahead of time. Pretty par for the diesel perf course. Not a lot of attention to detail out there with most vendors. I'll go buy two more bolts and re-route the damn heater hose but JHFC!

Will the stock bolts work for the bottom 2, in the center section? Using the 2 new ones on the top-side.



I have the ATS, and they forgot to have a provision for the front support for the heater lines.

I would call Paul at HTT, he's good to work with and quick to make good on anything you need. I was short a manifold gasket and a washer and he sent them overnight on a weekend, and they showed up like promised. I guess the exhaust manifolds are a new item, especially for the 12v's. The heater line brackets lined up fine on mine, can't remember how it is set up for 24v's? The only problem I ran into was the studs on the bottom for the turbo being too long, I just used the ones out of a stock manifold I had off my 1st Gen and it worked fine. Did you get the hardware kit for the manifold that includes all the bolts, washers, and gaskets?

I will call him Monday. I don't like the fact that either they have never test fitted one on a 2002 24v or they just failed to "share" the information that the stock heater core tubing will not work with the manifold. The webbing on the turbo flange will not allow the tube to slide back up under where it should be. The only option I can see is to get rid of the tubing and just plumb the whole length with rubber. There is a boss placed flat on top that might be used for some other design but it sure don't work for an 02 24V.



Yes I bought the "complete" install kit lol. iiiiiiiiii I just have so little patience for this sort of crap.

The ATS manifold is the same way. I just cut off part of the old mount and welded a new one on that I prebent. They don't want to tell you or they wont sell them. Most people don't have a welder in there garage. Sam

I don't have any problems with the ATS manifolds on 2nd or 3rd gens.

I have installed about 5 so far on different trucks.

If you look on the ATS site they show a "race" manifold at the bottom of the page. Notice the webbing on each side of the flange. This appears to be similar to the HTT unit. This prevents the tubing from tucking back up under the manifold. I would have still bought the thing but it would be nice if they would share that info up front so you could have the parts you need to complete the install.

Yes I'm on this site. Like I said in answer to the two emails you sent to me I'M SORRY THAT YOU HAD A PROBLEM WITH ONE OF OUR PRODUCTS, AND THAT WE WILL MAKE IT RIGHT WITH YOU! I think you can tell by all the responces about HTT, that is the kind of company we are. Everett Taylor

Everett, got you emails and I appreciate your willingness to get back to me that quick. I freely admit to getting overly wound after crawling around on top my motor for an afternoon fighting with it. I like the manifold and I'll give you a ring tomorrow to figure out what I need to do. Looks like just re-routing the heater hose will do the trick. Thx

I replaced my 2002 ETC exhaust manifold. The two top #3 #4 I used a stud and Belleville washers to hold the torque. I had a LONG posting session about 2 years ago about that.



I still have a couple of sets of Belleville washers remaining if you want to go that way. I did not use the cap bolts because they will not hold torque, the Studs / Belleville's / Drake Locknuts WILL!



I actually did all the bolts with Bellevilles until another member pointed outthe fact that you needed only 2. I went back with the stock bolts / sleeves except for #3 #4.



I also added the TSB bolt keepers on #1 top / bottom #2 t/b #3 bottom #4 bottom #5 t/b #6 t/b and it all is maintaining perfect torque.
