Thanks for the input!!

i wont be pulling the truck, just a street play toy

HTT told me that i may want to try thr SP66/12, he said it would spool faster and if i wanted to race the truck change it to a 14

I know a guy that is running the 66/14 with a stock set of injectors and a comp box on 2x3. I was suprised how well it spooled. I would go with the 66/14. I would think the that a 66/12 might have a tendency to surge. I know HTT has sold them and never heard good or bad about them, so I assume that it must be a pretty liveable combination.

Running a 12 housing with a 66 compressor really creates a big restriction and creates a ton of heat. The 14 housing is a much better option..... Plus as zstroken mentioned surging is pretty much assured.

Actually, on my truck, neither one of those issues is a problem. My cruising temps run around 500-700 at 65-75mph, (empty), towing, (8000lbs), they run around 800-1000. Up a grade, they might climb to 1100. And I have never had a surging problem, (even towing). That's with my BDDL on tow, and my TST on 3-2.

The 3rd gen trucks dont exhibit the surging tendencies that the 2nd gen trucks go, at least not the the same degree... . When I was referring to egt temp I was speaking about heavy throttle, basically WOT. The backpressure created by a tight housing is also detrimental to headgaskets. The HTT turbo's are a great turbo I am just not a fan of the 66/12 especially on the 2nd gen trucks.

What is the difference between a SPS 66 from Ind. inj. and HTT's sp66?

and would one make more power then the other?

The exhaust side is a lot bigger and the drive pressure runs lower. You will like the SPS66/80 Call us we will work out a price for you. 1-800-955-0476 Or you could call Doug at Diesel performance Warehouse he can do the same.

I have a question that's probably quite simple for you turbo guru's.

What is the surging and what actually causes it?

I dunno about the 66, but my sps 64 surges like crazy. I think driveability is right on the borderline depending on what you want. You can't go 45 in overdrive. It's driveable and you can drive around it, but be prepared, it will surge. If I had to do it again, I'd go with twins, in fact I still may go with twins, but first I ned more fuel. I'd like to try a 66 to see how much worse it is, I had wanted a 66, but got talked into the 64. Like I said, it's driveable, very driveable, but it's gonna surge. I'm going to put a 3 way lockup switch in so I can unlock the tc in OD at slower speeds.

I've been watching ths thread b/c I too think I want a SP66/14... what is "clipping the wheel" and where would I have it done? Who's got the best price on this turbo?

from what i understand and please someone correct me if i am wrong..... they change the angle of the blades and it will reduce the drive pressures

first of all. clipping the wheel means exactly what is states, they are taking material off the turbine wheel, thus it allows more breathing room top end, but it suffers on spoolup. i have the 66/14 on my 12v, and with the AFE stage II intake, i have very little surging issues, i used to have alot of surging issues with my 64/12, and i also had the k&n FIPK filet on my truck, which i think was alot of my surging problem, because i lost alot of the surging issues when i went with my afe setup. the 66/14 is a good setup, and ive got alot of fuel, and even with the 66/14, i still get some toasty egts on the top end. im thinkin about installing abooost elbow to get some more boost out of the turbo, but it would be nice to build a twin setup.
