I took my truck in to have brakes and callipers replaced last week. When I showed up to pick the truck up the guy had both rotors off the truck to turn. I noticed there was a barring connected to the rotor. Something didn't seem right because I recall reading that hub assemblies could not be serviced. Did he ruin my hub assemblies or what? He definitly had them broken apart. I later found out that you are suppose to have the rotors turned on the truck. My fault for not doing research first. Now I am noticing some grease coming from the back side of the hub. Am I doomed? Thanks, Andy

I'm guessing the a barring is a bearing ?
How much did they charge ?
Not all shops buy the machine to turn rotors on the car / truck , so if they do the turning off the truck and do not charged extra , that may work .
Then what do you mean by broken apart ?
With out seeing what they did , its hard to say .
I never got around to buying the machine for on truck turning , not enough use to pay for its self , in my shop .
You need in that case to have a note added to the work order & all parties sign , non standard repairs , same as when a customer wants me to do something I would not recommend , noting no warrentee , but its in reverse in your case , they are responsible for non standard repairs , especially if they did it with out advance notice .

The bearing assy and rotor have to separated on 00 and down if the rotors are not cut on the truck. Not many places have the equipment to do them on the truck as the equipment isn't cheap and places I know that "had" them said they were garbage and always broke. The 01 and up are different. If he took it apart and put it back together right you should be fine if not you are looking at about $250 +/- each for the bearing assyemblies + labor if you choose not to do it yourself.

The hub assemblies on the 4x4's can not be broken apart, you have to pound the lug studs out to get the rotors off. Stupid setup if you ask me. The front axle is my #1 complaint with the Dodges. I could deal with the rediculous rust if they had locking hubs and regular wheel bearing assemblies.
