2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Hub bearing seal question

I've been wondering if there is supposed to be a seal lip on the back side of the 4x4 hubs. I replaced the pass side hub about 3 years ago. The new hub had a seal lip on the back side that the OEM hubs do not. The seal lip rides against the metal ring pressed onto the axle shaft. Check the pics. OEM is the one on the right in both pics.

I have never seen one with the extra seal. I bought a couple through Carquest for someone and they didn't have it nor did the OEMs. Mine don't have it either.
