Went out to the truck today and saw this HUGE flipping oil puddle. It is on the drivers side of the truck If I didn't know any better, it looks like it came from the water drain unit from the fuel filter. I know this is not possible, just the location of the leak. Check the level and it said it was full. I did not crank it.

I know it was me by the track it left in the parking lot.

Any ideas????

is your truck a 4x4 ? if so look at the front diff .

if not the blowby bottle expells alot of oil and the fan spreads it everywhere .

did you recently go down a stteep incline forward ? oil will get up in the timing case and come out the blowby bottle .

Practical Joke?

Maybe youf Girlfriend went down to your local auto supply store and kinda,, dumped 1 gallon of oil under your truck just to scare you, LOL :)

On the driver side of the truck there are a couple "dark fluid" containers.

Power Steering

Brake Fluid

Engine Oil

it could be any one of those.

I've been reading about several Power Steering boxes leaking lately. You might want to check that.

I don't know how the brake fluid would leak,, besides a near failure of the fluid reserve bottle. (that bottle thing you pour the brake fluid in :D What is the Correct term for it? )

Since the temperature "up there" :) changed it could be from fluid expanding or a gasket letting go of it's seal, bolts/nuts loosening up,, etc. etc.

Also, I don't know if you are the type to do this,, but around here on the border I see it ALOT!!

People seem to like putting there Antifreeze, Power steering, Transmission fluid, brake fluid, and motor oil underneath their hood for storage. If you or somebody happened to leave a gallon bottle of oil under the truck it could have turned over and/or leaked out when the truck was stopped,, or soon before/after.

I bring up these possibilities, not because I think you would do them, but because you say there is oil on the ground, and the Engine still has all the oil it is supposed to.

Hope these help,

GOT IT!!!!!

It was the fuel filter cap, it had come lose(hadn't changed it yet).

The reason it was so dark was it had mixed with the blacktop it was parked on. Thought it smelled like diesel.

Thanks for your help guys.

heheh,, Diesel and black top.

LOL

Look for an area in the future that has been eaten away a little.

Diesel is corosive to black top :)

Your School will love you now. :D

leak

look at it this way--your truck has now marked its spot... ... put a reserved sign in front of that parking space... ... . :D

my truck took a leak

Yeah I try to park in the same spot when I can, not too hard concidering it's way out there so no one will come near it.

Merrick,

My dorm already loves me, when I go down the parking lot and step on it, I can set off EVERY car alarm in the parking lot. No joke!! It's pretty funny to hear 11 car alarms go off at once. There is a jerk in a red chevy dually gasser who does it at 8 in the morning. :mad:Wakes us all up!!! But that is the loudest truck I have ever heard in my life:eek:!

Back in high school, anytime one of my buddies would get an exhaust job done, we would go to a movie theater. We would drive around the parking lot (about 250 cars on a good night) and see how many car alarms we could set off. This was the judge as to how good of a job it was!!!
