The day started like any other, except I had the day off of work. What a day to do some maintenace on the Cummins. CHecked my log and found that it only needed a oil and filter change.
What a day to drop in that case of Amsoil HDD I have been sitting on.
Everything went fine and as usual until I torqued the CRAPPY SUPERPLUG from Geno's back in place. Started dumping oil in and it was coming back out nearly as fast!. Had never lost so much as a drip in the past!
Had a new sealing washer on and checked the threads and surface prior to torquing it to the required 40ft/lbs. Still leaked like a sive. Cranked on it some more, still leaked.
Couldnt find the old DC plug but was able to track one down at a Stealer a couple of towns over. ONly cost me $14 for the plug and washer. And aprox $60 for all the Amsoil I had to dump. WIth a stop at the auto store for $25 worth of Premiun Blue.
Well I never thought that I would say this but DC aleast made a drainplug that does what its supposed too. New plug in and not even a drop!
My superplug now resides at the bottom of the trash can where it belongs!.
Lessons learned: Sometimes OEM is better and there is no such thing as "routine" maintence.
If you have the Geno's superplug and have not had problems with it, you will. Pull it at next change and toss it.
