Hummer H1 Question

I am going to look at a H1 Hummer on Friday, and I would like to know if any body knows of any problems with them. It has a 6. 5l in it.

Don't know if it will help, but this page has some interesting information from someone who's lived with an H1 since 1992.

The 6. 5L isn't too bad if you dont mind wrench turning and investing some money in upgrades...



If it is an electronic engine, IP failures are well documented.

There was a block cracking problem due to a casting issue.

They are not intercooled, and tend to warp heads/eat head gaskets due to EGT's

The valve keepers are plastic.

Not that I like the 6. 5 or anything... but why does the US military put up with 6. 5's if they are as bad as I think they are? Plus... the power output for the liter size is terrible.

My guess is that when the Gov't was soliciting bids, the General came back the lowest. Also, I am almost sure that the military Hummers don't use the electronics that the civilian 6. 5's do. Maybe they're less troublesome? Maybe someone with experiance will tell us...

H1 Alpha

I'm not sure if or when it is coming out, but I recently read they they are going to make some new H1's with a Duramax. It's called the 2006 H1 Alpha. You can read a little about it below.
