Is anybody using the Hushpower muffler from Flowmaster? If you are, please post some info as regards drone (especially in the 1900-2100 rpm range, and while towing)/EGT drop (if any)/installation ease/fit quality/etc. It was featured in the April 2008 issue of Diesel World magazine.

Thanks,

Steve

I believe Flowmaster relies on reflected sound cancelation with I would think would have to be more restrictive than straight through types. That said, I have used Flowmasters on two fairly radical IHC Scouts and been really pleased with them. How's this for a non-comital post?

I have one on my truck and am pleased with it. Mine was a test unit that was given to me and installed so we could report dyno numbers and other info back to the supplier. The sound is nice and I have not noticed any drone in the cab. Noise inside was not much different than stock set up. Noise out the back is nice, not to loud, but more than stock. Install was simple and it is non-restrictive and flow through design. You can see straight through it.

you must have an early prototype or something because the current ones have perforated mesh cones in them sortof like a big truck muffler, but they are packed, so the gasses can't flow around the cones

It was perforated metal inside, I guess I don't remember it being cone shaped. It very well may have been. All I remember is that if you looked down through it you could see straight through. Thanks to Greeley Automotive Machine for the muffler and dyno runs.

Mike L. ,

Have you towed with your truck since installing that muffler? If you have, did you notice any drone? How about EGT reduction as compared to the stock muffler?

Thanks,

Steve

I've towed with it and no drone. As far as EGT, was minimal reduction. The new trucks already have a nice exhaust on them being 4 inch. I just know a less restrictive muffler is always better.

I like to put one on my 07, but because original muffler don't have inlet/ outlet in center as Hushpower does, not sure where to get connection pipe for it. I know the MBRP is selling they Dodge kit wit connection pipe, but don't want to pay $200 for it plus another $200 for Hushpower. Anybody know, if somebody sell connection pipe only ? First I was planning go with the MBRP, but some people are saying they drone when towing, which I am not looking to that.

How they did that on your truck ?

They don't sound that great IMO :(
Meaning spec wise or the audible tone, or lack of?

For me I like quiet, I wouldn't mind changing out my stocker for better flow but not at the cost of much more noise.

Wonder how the Hushpower compares to a 51" Donaldson in the noise department?

the 51" Donaldson is going to be quieter.

The Hushpower eats up turbine whistle out of the exhaust.

call me old school, but if I've got a turbo, I want to know I've got a turbo when I hear the exhaust :)

I agree with Matt, I really like the quiet. A truck passed me yesterday going to work and although it was a Cummins it sounded terrible to me. Just loud and thuggy sounding. Mine is stock for now but might like a bit more throaty I think. I am afraid to mess with it!

I don't mind quiet, but I really like to hear the turbo, and the hushpower kills the turbo sound in the exhaust.

all packed mufflers do... Magnaflow, MBRP, borla, etc.

my '04 had a full 5" MBRP on it when I bought it. It has twins on it, so there's really no need for a muffler.

I straight piped it, and it isn't any louder inside the cab, but the turbos are about 10 times louder without the packed muffler on there :D
