Sittin' Too long in one spot

Good diesel on trip

I've had a 16k huskey for 5 yrs. Had it in my 01 & now it's in my 05. I haven't had any problems with it. I keep the mecanism geesed but use the nylon plate for the pin box to slide on.

Mike... Don't know much about this hitch but here are a couple of things I would look for:

1. It makes it a lot easier to hitch/unhitch if the hitch has a double pivot (front to back and side to side). If not, it can "bind" up on you on uneven ground.

2. I'm not a fan of the "single bar" type hitch that slides in front of the kingpin when it closes. If there is any pressure on the bar it is very hard to move. I had a Reese 15K Trailboss on my last rig and I had to jockey the truck, more then once, to get the pressure off the bar before unhitching.

3. I now have an R&W hitch with the Companion 5th wheel adapter. It has a "clamshell" type of hitch that goes around the kingpin, when closed. Some don't like this type of hitch, but I have found it to be far better then the bar hitch I had. It has a positive lock, has eliminated the jerking front to back motion when starting or stopping, and is very easy to hitch or unhitch.

JMHO... ;)

I am having a new 16K (no slider) Husky 5th wheel hitch put in my truck tomorrow. Can anyone speak on this hitch.

Thanks

Mike

I had a 16K on my 96. After a year of pulling, the Pin Tabs that lock into the bed rails started to show signs of wear/slop. When the trailer brakes applied, the hitch would rock back a forth giving you that feeling the entire assembly was going to yank out. On my 05, I installed the B&W under-bed system. I'll never go back to a Husky even if it was given to me as a Door Prize. That's my personal opinion.

Check out the Pin Jaws. Compare that to the Husky Head.
