It has been an expensive week!!! #ad
I may soon be a non-profit organization, -$$. $$! This advanced Bombing binge has me drydocked lately. #ad

While on clutch #2, I noticed some noise from the xmisson. Hmmm..... could it be the new pilot bearing??? Now the "Rolex" ($$$) clutch is in and working, the noise is getting worse, YIKES!!! It really growls under way between 1600 and 1900 rpms, sorta vibrates too (ugly). When it is hot the noise at the stoplights is louder, push the clutch and it goes away. I am afraid my input shaft bearing is toast, what do you transmission doctors think??? Hmm? #ad

I'm considering snaggin' a donor organ outta a Ram cadaver (junk yard option). With shop labor costs around here, I may need one of those "fanny mae" loan things to amortize this over my next lifetime!! #ad

At this rate I may opt for a quick release, spring loaded xmisson as much daylight as this thing has been seeing (man!). Maybe I should go to one of those more reliable oil pump xmissons like Big Daddy Piers has (he of the diesel jet). #ad
#ad

Somewhere CMECHANIC is shaking his head "I told you so". CMECHANIC, I need a Cummins xmisson!!! I'd like that with a Cummins clutch too. #ad
Hey, where are you anyway??
How am I supposed to pilot my way through my second adolesence without a figurative curb??
Couldn't you reregister as Alice in Des Moine
and post in a high voice? Hehehee

I will roll my Ram down to the foot of the drive as it is a $35,000 mail box now. I still enjoy sitting in it and playing my tapes of F15 Eagle fighter jets in full burn!!! Weee!!

This isn't some pi$$ poor excuse to get out of racing Piers is it? #ad

Looks like you'll be taking that job you turned down earlier this week after all.

Sponsers would be nice...

A vulgar display of power!

Good idea Mike, BD and Piers could sponsor my Ram so they would have a victim for the steroid Ram. This would be like the Washington Generals BB team that the Globetrotters beat up daily. I would be a sacrificial Ram you might say!!! LOL At least I am not a lamb like some of those non-Bombed Rams out there. Ptewwy!!!

So, what do you think Piers??? Huh? Let's discuss my breakage budget, my power perdium, my aftermarket allowance, my damage distribution. You would not want to be viewed as a large professional corporation, flexing it's muscles to extinguish an upstart competitor would you?? You Microsoft you!!!

Yeah, is this just preliminary whining and rationale for not getting stomped by the scourge of the north?

If you are serious, first, did you change the pilot bearing? Was the nose of the input gear perfect where the pilot bearing rubs? Did you change the throwout bearing? If you used the dual disk Rolex, I hear it comes with a special bearing. Maybe it was defective. Maybe you reinstalled the clutch fork backwards (don't laugh, there was a possibility of doing this one some years of Rams, but I don't know if it can be done wrong on the new ones).

Now to the epxensive stuff--pull the input bearing retainer (the throwout bearing slides on it). Is the TO bearing slide area smooth and unworn? Is the input bearing good? Is there any evidence that the clutch disk rubbed the end of the retainer? Use a dial indicator to verify that the hole in the bellhousing is exactly centered and also is not higher on one side.

Next it is time to tear down the NV4500 and see if some needle bearings are trashed, or the gears are worn.

With your reputation for B. O. M. B. ing, and Mopar's presence on this list, you don't have a prayer of getting warranty coverage, I'm afraid. #ad
However, they might consider that if the bellhousing is machined crooked, that might not be a result of bombing (yeah, some of the service writers are dumb, but try to get one with an IQ higher than the nap on the rug).

Good luck. You are forgiven, maybe, from attending the Belen meet, but you better be at May Madness, or the reputation of the 24 valve will suffer irretrievably. #ad

The throw out bearing is new, the pilot is a stout sealed ball bearing, also new. I just got the clutch ransom paid and now here I have a xmisson ransom to pay. My forehead is sore from bumping into problems!!! When I anylize this anomoly, the component that stops spinning when the clutch is in is the monster input shaft bearing... . right???

These 24v trucks are fragile creatures it seems. I may need kid gloves for my right foot!!!

Well JD, I will call "Smokin Dave Mitchell",
maybe he can stand in for me at MM. You brother dozen valvers can battle for the position at the peak of the horsepower hill.

I will begin to research installation of a Fuller xmisson!! It would be hard to imagine Dodge offering to take care of this prob.

I will start rolling my quarters and dimes this afternoon.

Bombing the bank!!!

HVAC
Sorry to hear of trans woes, my 1st thought same as yours, "Roadranger". Does anyone have aftermarket parts to build a heavier duty nv4500?
I certainly hope it is on the road long before May Madness, looking forward to meeting the horsepower king!

You know Larry, I never would have thought the 5sp would say uncle and give up like it has. I still don't think it should be necessary to be concerned with beefing it up.
I'd sure like to get my racing gloves on a six pack, I mean a six speed. I think there sexy. But for $6,000 I would go up to a Lennco, $7,400. World transmission!!! Rah

I'll get to MM if I have to attach some pedals and a chain drive Larry!!! #ad
Arrrr

HVAC,

Hell, put in a Lenco. With the modular design, you could have a five, six, seven, or who knows how many gears you could fit in your Ram. Plus wouldn't a mess of levers sticking up out of you tunnel look just too cool.

I don't know about any of ya'll, but I doubt there is anyone else out there running a diesel and a Lenco in a Dodge, let alone anything else. Something to think about.

:{. . HVAC. . sorry to see your post. . is this your verson of the Ram crash test dummy?? from your description it sounds to me like the front input carrier also. . hope so it's reasonable $$. . but in my expierience [a few ooopses] even if you find the carrier bad don't stop there, take that bad boy apart and check all the pieces out... I'm sure you already know this from your line of work. . as you know better safe than sorry, nothing worse than putting back in only to find another issue. . BTW what high speed/launch caused it[please tell us it was a f*&d, not just happened]. . Gary
PS... just thought of an idea. . you could send over that new clutch to me so I could just go ahead and order up that new blue box and not have to spend those biggg'uns on the clutch

mkubacak, I confess, when I was taking a crash course in stout clutches 101, I was told that Barry Saddleface #ad
has a 4-speed Lenco in his truck. Poor thing had the hiccups on Pikes Peak I hear. #ad
#ad
#ad
HA HA He also has two OD's!! #ad
I don't like him, but he does some stuff that I cannot throw rocks at. Frockeritzin mutha duckin porcupine!!! #ad
AAaarrrrrr... bite... bite... bite... arr!!!

mkubacak, I cannot think for long about the Lenco transmission or I will surely wet my pants!!!
It would be too #ad
8) Man that would ROCK!!! #ad

I am getting worked up into a lather. I think I will have a molotov cocktail and try to cool my turbos a bit!!!

Hey Nowel !!! I was hoping you'd be there to witness my Truck burnin' rubber from Las Vegas to Stateline, after my Diesel Dynamics power injection!!! Maybe I should do stage II instead of stage III !!! I used to drive a Kenworth cabover, with a 903cid, 325hp turbo-after cooled CAT, with a 13 speed Roadranger transmission and I feel that's the transmission for you and your battle cruiser!!! I'm sure there's a bellhousing and trans out there lanquishing in a cold lonely junkyard, that you could hook up, since Cummins powers many OTR big rigs--of course then you'd probably need a MUCHO MACHO pumpkin of a rear end to handle the torque multiplication!! Seriously my bud, I wish you the best and get back on the road soon!! Sam #ad

HVAC, Wee one here. Try running a few more miles each day.
Part of BOMBing is teamwork. Anything a fellow 24V can do to help [besides trailer your rig around], let me know.
Theres a 7 spd in an FL-70 Freightliner linked to a Cummins down the block... BRB.

My lil clutch is barely intact.

I just did a mileage update on my truck.
Its been very cold here lately. I got 14. 57 mpg on my last tank of blended fuel in 4X4 all the time and all city driving. My 97 12V auto 4x4 was gettin 12-13 mpg in these conditions.

Gotta be careful in 4X4 with the throttle... tends to make things slippery in places other then the street.

After you finish cleaning up from soiling yourself... let me know if I can help. I'll hold up the truck for you while you work on it. #ad

Hey HVAC, I'm a new member, but I read your post, sounds to me like your throwout bearing is making the noise, I changed the clutch plate, pilot bearing, throwout bearing and
pressure plate on a old 72 Bronco I had in High School. It did the same thing and the throwout bearing was defective, it whined and rattled like crazy except when the clutch was
pushed in, then it was fine. If the pilot bearing is bad it will cause a bad shutter
when starting from a stop and especially
in reverse. Thought I would share my experience, hope it helps.

Hello tshunt, you newby you! #ad
I certainly appreciate your input, no doubt! My experience is that if one has a TO bearing going bad it will complain when the clutch is engaged, otherwise the bearing should not be spinning with the clutch disengaged, and not making noise.

Hello GIANT Willy!
You could say I am a Bomb test dummy! CMECHANIC advised against this, but naturally I did not listen to the voice of authority!
So, we Bomb this and we Bomb that and we fall back and assess the collateral damage. Clutch good/ xmisson bad, hmmm next!! Damaged components on parade here!

Yes Big Willy, I was battling a gang of PSD's when trouble manifested itself. I was pushing about three of them into a drainage canal when the first groans were audible from the torque processor. I am continually fighting the forces of evil!! Since then I have only noticed the problem ripening. I was feelin' my oats with the new drag race clutch and all, but alas, I am in need of a new hyperdrive!

The new clutch is the only success story I have to report for the month, it is guarded by mercenaries to prevent HVAC more handicapped parking space time!!!

This xmisson problem is really torquing me off!!! #ad
Rrrrrrr

Ya know, the Marines never leave a man behind. When a dolphin is ill, a group will stay with it, and even help it to the surface to breath. Even cows will circle around and enclose the young and the weak in the middle, with the older ones between them and the wolves.

Us rammers can't do less than those lesser species, can we? So, what's gotta happen to get HVAC on the on the road again in time? Do we need to scour our respective 'yards for a donor transmission, or find him parts or ??? Come on TDR, this is your mission, if you choose to accept it.
