HX-35 MWE slot

I have the PDR hx-35 turbo and have read that the MWE slot cut in the turbo to prevent turbo bark actually decreases compressor efficiency. Does running the silencer ring help bring the efficiency back by covering up the slot somewhat? I have noticed that with the silencer ring installed i can detect a little turbo flutter when i quickly let up the throttle under load and i don't hear this flutter with the silencer left out, so am i covering up this slot with the ring in?

you don't get peak efficiency back by installing the silencer ring as the slot is still there and still able to bypass air. you DO reduce the ability to prevent surge with it out. not so much on the 35's as the little HY9's, but I'd still yank it out and install it in the trash can
