Is the inlet to the compressor housing bigger on an hx35 as compared to an h1c? I have a non IC '91, and I just measured it out, and i was getting around 3. 5 in on the h1c, and exactly 4 in. on the hx35. What I'm asking is it supposed to be bigger, or did I get the wrong turbo with an HX35 tag on it? I ordered it from piers, so it's a PDR HX35. Thanks!

Ah, so, I guess in order to make the intake tube fit the inlet to the compressor, you'd have to cut it alittle further up to where the dia. widens out to around 4 inches?

jaynes

I suppose you could do that... I was able to get an inlet hose from one of the guys here who I think did an upgrade and that's what I'm using now

Have you looked at the outlet to the crossover tube? That's now a different size as well.

Jay

NonIC'd H1C is 3 or 3. 5", IC'd H1C is 4" same as HX35. So jaynes you're nonIC'd and you have a PDRhx35? Looks like you're gonna have to go to the St. Louis dyno day this Sat and look at how Daniel did his. Gonna have to clock the turbo. Need a 91. 5-93 intake hose or one of Sams sweet intakes. Or could do what Jay is planning on doing, and build a different crossover. Would need a intake horn from a IC'd 91. 5-93, turbo to IC elbow, clamp and a section of IC pipe...

Actually I'll be at AJ's this sat working on the thing. Sorry AJ, I thougt you knew it was non- IC, my fault! I wish I could tell better from Daniels pics how he did it, and the hoses from the 91. 5 and later are different? I thought they were all the same until you hit the HX-35 years. Hmm... this could be fun!

Don't worry, I'm good at stuff like this.

Dang, you weren't kidding! I'm still gonna go to Cummins for that AFC banjo bolt we broke, but i'm leaving the one you made in there as long as it works! Or maybe i'll swap the two out and see if there are any performance issues. I think I read somewhere about Daniel saying to cut the intake tube in half or something, which would be cheaper than buying a later model one. Thanks again for all your help, it was a great learning experience. I'll keep you posted on how everything turns out after some new stuff (air filter, intake hose, etc)

Glad you made it home alright, I'm glad I didn't have a 5 hour drive last night. I woke up today with a cold, I think we may have stayed up too late on Friday!! Let me know if you run into any problems.

tell you what man I was feeling it saturday morning! Your wife makes good bisquits and gravy, though :-laf :-laf ! Do you think I could cut up that intake tube to where it measures out at 4 in. diam. The only thing though is that where it measures 4 in, it is on the flexible part, where it has those big flex ring things that allow the tube to bend. I'm not sure how entirely accurate it would be. Good idea or just wait till tomorrow and look for a good tube off a later model one? I just don't want to take off the custom intake, hehe, and then not be able to get it back on right, even though it doesn't look that hard, it's the worry factor for me that I have to get over.

oh and I did have to pull over about 5-6 times last night and walk around cause I was falling asleep at the wheel

If it was me, I'd look for one in a junkyard. Or maybe someone around here has one that has put on an AFE. At least check and see how much they would cost, I can't imagine they'd be too much. That would be the easiest fix. If you try to cut the one you have, you'll have to remount the air box, because I'm pretty sure the intake hose wouldn't reach it. In any case, don't take that 3 to 4 inch adapter off the intake of the turbo until you are ready to replace it for good. It was a real SOB to get on there the first time.

Ha, i'd do it just to tick ya off :-laf , i'm kidding, I KID! Alright, i'll look for one first. For now i'm going to tear into my door and fix all the rattles and squeaks that about drove me up a wall on the way home last night.
