I'm thinking about buying a low milage HX 35 and putting my ported 16CM housing on it. My stock turbo is still in good condition with 165K but I'm wondering if a stock HX 35 is worth the change with the slight mods I already have done. I've read that it's a straight bolt up and go turbo change. Is the spool up about the same as my stocker with a 16CM?. .

Overall your spooling may be "slightly" quicker but not something to make your eye's bug out.

It will move a bit more air and move it more efficiently for you. The stock housing on your turbo is an 18. 5cm and going to the 16 will make a noticeable difference.

Again it won't be 'holy cow' but it is a better turbo with a bit better efficiency map.

If you are going to buy a used '35 then you need to check for shaft play first.

Grasp the nut on the intake pinwheel and move it side to side then front to back.

If it moves front to back then it is showing sign of wear and will likely need a bearing kit... . the same goes for the side to side but this one is even more important... if that pinwheel move just enough it can contact the inside of the compressor housing and THAT is BAD !!!!

When you check it out, pour some oil into the oil inlet port until it starts to come out the drain hole on the bottom then do the movement test.
