After putting in DD2's it looks like my EGT's are going to run a little warm towing. I want to keep my 3" exhaust (already have a Pac Brake in line and don't want to buy a new one). I have heard that if I change my HY35 to an Hx35 with a 14cm housing I can cool my temps down by 200 to 250 degrees. Has anybody else done this mod and is there a difference between the wastgated and non wastegated housings. I have heard with the non wastegated housing I have to move the whole exhaust system. Also if anyone has a housing floating around they would be willing to sell please PM me.

I like the 12cm housing better than the 14cm

Too much smoke and lag with the 14cm housing

I have the DTT 91% transmission

Take a look at Piers Diesel Research... ... www.piersdiesel.com/Hx35.htm

I have one of these and am very happy. If you just need an exhaust housing check ebay or Piers sells them too.

**By the way I am not affiliated with PDR, just a happy customer. . same goes for DTT and DD. **

I only tow a 3,000lb boat so EGT's are not a problem. They might be if I towed a 5er or equivalent... . :D :D I see you have have an auto. Other things being equal, from what I have seen, the autos tend to see higher EGT's than their manual counterparts. Don't ask me why because I am not really sure.....

I was playing with several configurations of HX35's. The problem is you are over speeding the turbo and pushing it out of is efficiency range, which gives you high drive pressure and high EGT’s. I even ran a 21cm to reduce drive pressure I made 45 psi of boost with it with only 45 psi drive pressure at 1800 RPM, but lag is an issue.

Get a hold of Piers and talk to him about his modified HX-35 it should answer a lot of your problems

lower's egt's

quick spool up can be run with 12-14-16 ect housing

fits with your pac brake

11K lb truck and no problems.......

I switched to the PDR35 from an HY. EGT's didn't change much. First I had the 14cm² housing but felt the lag was a bit bad so I switched to a 12cm². It's hard to adjust after the HY which spools so quickly.

EZ, DD2's, 4" exhaust and a BHAF and my EGT's rarely go over 1100°. Out of it's efficiency or not the little HY was a good turbo. Most of my heavy mods were done in the fall so the intercooler had help with the weather not being so bad. Now that summer is here changing turbo's may help more than I know.
