I goofed around and made a t-3 to t-4 adapter and made a down pipe. Many of you had told me the the 18cm housing was no good. And you are very right. LAG PIG.

I called piers to hunt down a housing and was told that if I had the 18cm housing with a t-4 flange the turbo was no good. This cant be true. If anyone out there knows a thing or two about the hx-40 please give me some insight.

The ID tag on the turbo is missing so I will look for some other numbers to post up.

And again if anyone has a 16cm housing for the hx-40 please shoot me a PM. I need the truck to be going next week, worst case senario I will look for a hx35-40 or just a hx35.

The HX35/40 hybrid will support in the neighborhood of 300RWHP. So, coming from 160hp, that IS turned up quite a bit. But, if you have POD or EDM injectors, you can over run it.

Why not take the impellar off the HX40 and put it on an HX35 cartridge? That way, you can have your hybrid, on the cheap.

Could part of your problem with lag be the T3-T4 adaptor possibly upsetting exhuast flow?

Daniel

thank you for correcting me daniel - my truck had pod's in it when i got it so i never factored in the stock injectors...

bet it is a great turbo for 300 hp too!

brad at ponci's has a 40/35 on the shelf if you need it NOW

sent the money off for my new turbo yesterday...

cant hardly wait!

unless the adapter was a total massacre, it's not hurting anything... but the 18cm HX40 turbine side on a VE pumped engine is...

heck, the 16cm I ran on my 215 p-pump engine with 370's was pretty sluggish

I just dropped a deposit on my twins for the 06. So I have a limited budget for the 89. I find it hard to believe there are different hx 40s. I would think to some degree they would be the same. I have pod's and the pump is turned up pretty good. So I think the hx 40 or greater is needed. Its not a race truck but I want it to be right.

I will continue my search for the 16cm housing.

Thanks for the input

belive it or not, but there are TONS of HX40's... some have smaller compressor wheels than your H1C... the HX40 denotes the turbine wheel.

even if you find a 16cm housing, I can pretty much bet you won't like it... just my experience/opinion

Forrest Nearing is trying to steer him clear of the HX turbos ;). He is fond of the S-300 line, but they are not for one on a budget. Face it, you can get the fuel pretty easily from the VE, but the air to burn it all can be costly.

I still think a 60mm impellar wheel can produce the airflow necessary for your fuelling, or at least give you more than you currently have.

Daniel

not at all... he's on a budget... I suggested an HX35 actually...

you could hybrid your HX40 using your H1C turbine shaft, but make sure you're starting with a desirable HX40 compressor wheel!!!

I'm all about budget, but I can't tell you how many times I've tried to steer people away from "this $300 HX40 I found on ebay!"

that $300 turns into a steaming turd and the money could have been put towards a real turbo

again I appreciate the help. I like getting the different opinions. I might be able to scrape some doe together. If you had the pick of the litter what would you put on my truck.

PDR is probly trying to sell you a whole charger. They probly don't deal with turbo parts, especially the needle in the haystack 16cm housing for a hx40. Let alone part with one. The turbo you have isn't the most desireable hx40, but still can be used if you found the unicorn of housings... . NOT gonna happen. Forget about. The 16/40 is only used on 24 valve C series, not the older 12V's. Not likely you'll come across a core 24V. 99. 999% of the hx40's that are bought and sold on ebay are not the most desireable 6 blade compressor wheel 16cm housing unit. They are the turd 8 blade 18, 19, 21cm T4 housing units.

If I were you, I would consider machining a 18cm housing from a h1c to fit the 65mm turbine wheel of your hx40. Then you'd have a useable charger, not a door stop. Opinions could vary on the ability to weld cast iron housings though. Also I would not try to machine a housing smaller than the 18. The hx40 is already a hand grenade. No need to spin it into orbit anymore with a smaller housing. A 16 from a h1c or 35 hold value. 18's can be had cheap to free.

Is this 6 blade HX40/16cm2 the "Super 40"? And is the Super 40 actually call the Super 40?

According to HTT, the Super40 has a newly designed 7 blade compressor wheel. The 6 blade wheel is the 60mm wheel. From what I've gathered, the 8 blade is a 58mm wheel, same as the hybrid Piers 35/40.
