I have seen a lot of turbo talk lately. I was given a near new hx40. I curently run my stock turbo with 12cm housing and the bearings are bad. Would this swap work out nice? I also have the oppurtunity to get a nice hx35. Which would be better.

I dont tow, I have 3200 springs, POD's, Single stack, piston style lift pump, tweaked injection pump, 93 intercooler( soon to be powerjoke intercooler with 3" tubing)

I have a HTT 40 on my truck and really like it. The 35 will spool faster, though I don't know how much faster, with an auto, you might like the 35 better though. With your mods I don't think you will need the additional cooling the 40 will offer, not yet anyway...

Generally, the manual transmission equipped guys like the HX hybrids and the auto guys don't notice the slower spooling 40. You must remember that if you have the H1C with the 21 or 18. 5 turbine housing, the 40 with a 16 gate will not exhibit the slow to spool syndrome. If you have a 12 or 14 housing them perhaps... ... ... ...

Do the 40 and don't look back. What size is the compressor? Most likely a 58 or 60mm? The larger turbine wheel will provide less restriction than the small(er) H1C or 35 which share the same.

What size is the turbine housing?

Yeah, I'd say go for the HX40, too. Or you can sell it to me :D Oo. Yeah, that'll be the day. BUT, you need to make sure it has a 16 or 18cm housing, and that it has a T3 exhaust inlet flange. If it has a T4, you will have to get another exhaust housing.

Hey, stock CTDs have the 18 (some even the 21), so I doubt it'd be real laggy compared to stock. If he is running a H1C-12, then yes, it will be laggy. I think lag is more fuelling related than turbo related, though I only have experience with stock turbos and one PDR HX35.

40-18 = lag pig. You've also got a much bigger turbine wheel in the 40 to get moving compared to a h1c turbine wheel with 18 or 21cm housing. Most likely it will not be a 16cm housing:(.
