What are the differences in performance between a PDR HX-40 and a HX-35-16 with a HX-40 compressor wheel and housing bolted to it?

I want to add a set of 370s and swap in a #10 plate to my current setup, but still be able to tow with the truck. (gooseneck trailer wih 2 jeeps, about 12,000#)

Will a hybred 35 do it, or do I need to go with a PDR 40, or maybe twins using my 35 and somehing like a HT-3b?

As my truck sits right now, I have to back out of the throte on hills pulling the trailer if I am over about 2600 RPM. I live at about 5000 feet, and I think this has something to do with the EGTs.

I know I wil need a new clutch before I get much more power.

I will share my experience with the #10 plate and the PDR-HX40 and maybe it will help you decide what to do. I went from stock to a PDR-HX40 , #10 plate, 3K Gov springs , AFC kit, Scotty 2 and complete 4" Rip Rook exhaust. I still have the stock 215 injectors. With the #10 plate in the exact position the stock plate was in the EGT's will go to 1500 degrees if you run it hard with a load or up a steep hill. Performance was greatly improved over stock. With the #10 plate 0. 050 back from stock location the EGT's do not go above 1250 degrees. I am going to port the head and change the camshaft before I consider larger injectors. I may get flamed for saying this but with the #10 plate and 370 injectors you will definitely need more than a HX35 size turbo if you want to control EGT's.

Hope this helps,

Kent

I won't flame you I'll agree with you!:D

I have 300 Marine Injectors and a # 10 (centered/stock) with a 3K GSK and a Scotty II (w/cowl hole) also factory exhaust straightpiped.

I'm at the limits of my factory HX35!:{ I slid my #10 full forward for dyno day and my EGT's climbed A LOT quicker, but I could definately feel the 50HP boost! 2 days after I slid it I had to tow my cousins 92 Ford F-250 on a 25FT Goose (heavy... . tandem axle/tire) and I could definately telll I had to keep out of it! (luckily it was raining! :-laf )

Yeah if your pulling that much weight Mark and you already have a Scotty II then your at your limits as well.

Your either gonna have to go to an HX40 or... . twin it!Oo.

There is a towing set of twins in the TDR classifieds for sale right now that consist of a HX35, plumbing, and a HT3B;)

I have my ten all the way forward good power and still able to tow with it. Timing is advanced to 15. 5 and I use the 16cm exauste housing on the stock hx35. Towing I watch the egt gauge and just back out when the temps go to high. hasent been to much of a proublem. Unloaded and on the peadel hard I can peg the gauge from around 2800 rpm and up. I woulde go for the pdr 40 I also plan on sizing up this year. And as a bones the hx40 will give you around 20-30 hp over the stock hx35.
