Would it be worth it to put an HX35 with a bigger housing, on my 01 automatic, in place of HY35..... I have an EZ/BDII's, so I,m talking 9cm to 12cm, or is it 14 ?... . what is required to do the changeover, and does anyone have the setup for sale?... . I seems with a lot of Rammers changing over to HX40's, there should be some around with downpipes and clamps..... Kinda curious...

I recently changed my HY-35 to the HX-35 12cm (off an HO Cummins). It was an easy bolt-on job, about an hour, with only a new gasket set being needed in addition to the turbo. I do like the HX-35 turbo, as it is easy to adjust the boost with the Practical Solutions boost elbow in place of the factory one. I was fortunate enough to have a local diesel shop wanting my factory HY turbo for testing, they trade me even. If I were spending money I might have gone with the HX-40, it still is on my want list.

I have asked a number of the bombers out there the same question. All of them replied, why bother with the HX35 because it is also not enought for a bombed truck. I have decided to get an HX40 and have it sent to majestic turbo to have it preped. They do some work on the blades and remove some mass from them, making the turbo spool up just as fast as a 35. I figure if I am going to spend $$$ I might as well spend it once instead of buying a HX35 and then in a year buying a 40. Just my opnion.

I also changed to a HX35 w/12cm housing. The reason for that was basically b/c I like the snappiness on the bottom end compared to that of a HX40. When I first swapped my turbo's I was running a little smaller injectors and was getting about 45-46lbs of boost. Which was a good setup at the time. Now I have a much bigger set of injectors, and the injectors alone will do about 42-43 lbs of boost. That combined with my JVD even on low it will bury my 50lbs gauge really quick, and that's really pushing that charger to it's limits. So now I still dont know if I would have the right amount of fuel to bring the bottom end out of an HX40 and I want something that will handle the boost now and when I go even farther. I have also been considering runnin twins which will deffinately do the job. Hope this helps

I swapped my HX35 for a HX40, the HX35 has 3200 miles and was always allowed to cool before shut down. I have the stock boost elbow and the Edge aftermarket elbow. The exhaust elbow is also attached. Send me an e-mail if you you decide to go this route, I'm not looking for alot of $$$.
That being said, it sure sounds to me that you have plenty of fuel to turn the HX40. I'm hardly an expert, maybe sportbike can jump in and help your decision.

<font color = blue> Just my own $0. 02 -The short answer is definitely "yes" but you should also consider the 14cms HX35 housing as a possible option, if your research shows that the overall characteristics of the larger HX35 unit outweigh the HX40 or meet your expectations more completely. IOW, you get what you pay for and you pay for what you get.

At the end of the day it's a tough choice, not a compromise #ad

JR2, If your turbo has not already been prepped by Majestic, I would not have them clip the turbine vanes. That will only increase lag. When I had mine done, I was there and talking to the guys who do the work , Tim and Robert. They both told me that clipping the vanes would only increase lag. I have a set of injectors in the garage, I need to install, which should help with the lag, we'll see. I spend alot of time on the phone with both Tim an Robert discussing what we are going to do next to turbo to increase performance. Tim is in the process of machining a HX35 compressor housing that will fit my 40. It will have a silincer ring in it . That's not a performance increase but for noise reduction, with the PSA it's just to loud.

Trust me, you do not want any company chopping/trimming a blade that can spin between 50,000-150,000 RPM. I made that mistake with my talon, never again. The company that makes the turbo tests for the speed it can spin, all the others do not!

I think your'e alittle off base IMO. You may have had a bad experence with your talon but Majestic does not do any "chopping/trimming"
When you are talking about clipping a turbine wheel. What they do is percision machine the wheel to remove a certain amount in degrees lets say 10% and then high speed balance the whole rotating assembly. There happens to be an H2E that has made it from one coast to another in a couple of extremely high horsepower trucks, they must have done something right. As for the HX40 it comes from the factory with an 8 degree clip, increasing that would only cause more low end lag. I was up at Majestic yesterday to install the machined HX35 housing w/ silincer ring and it sure has reduced the turbo noise.
