Like my signature says I just purchased this truck for $3000 two weeks ago and it was bone stock. I have a set of Stage 4 (100 HP) Jammer injectors from Edge that I havent installed yet. If I cut the Juice up to 5x5 the EGT's get kinda hot. I really have two questions, I want to install the injectors and can get a killer deal on a brand new HX40. I was just wondering if their will be a ton of lag with that turbo and if it would allow me to install the injectors with not killing the EGT's. This will be a daily driver and I probably wont ever tow with it. I wont be racing the truck either, just a play toy. Also do you think that I could get by with just installing a triple lock converter and a suncoast valve body. The converter isnt slipping, I just want to catch it before it does. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks alot.

if i were you iwould get the hx40 the lag will be a little more but if its to much you can take you Hy and make it a hybrid or find an hx 35 exhaust housing and use that, it would be better. Like i said you should have an hy35 since the auto, (i could be wrong) but a hybrid hx35/hx40 would be a good setup until you got power hungry again.

Well as soon as I got the truck I installed a new VP44, lift pump, and also to prepare for future upgrades, I installed a Carter electric fuel pump on the frame rail. Should have plenty enough fuel pressure because the attitude says that I have 31 psi of fuel press at idle and at WOT it drops to like 25 psi. My main concern is that if I stay in it with the att. on level 5 then I have no problems hitting 1400 on the EGT and I know that if I install the injectors that it will only get worse. So you think that the hx40 will be fine?

I run a 40. it is a good turbo for mild power. lag isnt that bad. you should be happy with it.

My main issue is the EGT's , so since I plan on installing the injectors, should I just go ahead and go with a complete HX40 or should I attempt to try the HX35/40 hybrid? If the hybrid then the whole turbo should be the HX35 and just remove the intake housing from a 40 and install it in place of the intake housing on the HX35? What kind of EGT's do you think that I will run with the Juice on level 5x5?

i run the 40 on mine. it should cool a little better than a hybrid i would think but im no expert. Youll probably still be driving by the pyro either way. I can hit 1500 on a hard run and from what ive heard the comp will get a little hotter on the top than my smarty.

the 40 will be good for a daily driver, mild towing and play. I was running a PDR hx40 and loved it but had the chance to come out even by selling it to a buddy which I did and now im back to stock (limping around) Id go for the 40, the lag is something to deal with but its not bad at all, it wont spool like a stock charger, yet its NOT stock so you will notice a little difference until the 40 lights then its a blast of fun!!!

Im heading down the slope of O-rings, Studs, and a HTT ProStreet66, smarty and water meth kit :) :)

ps- I towed dads 05 on a 37' tandem dual goosneck trailer down the highway with no problem and no problem getting out into the fast lane and keeping up to cars with no egt issue and my comp on 3x3 (there is a picture in my gallery of the truck, trailer, truck)

So everyone thinks that I should go with the HX40. You think that it will take some of the lag out of it with the 100HP injectors with the juice with attitude? I figure that then I might finally get a little smoke. Im used to the smoke of the old 12V and since I cant seem to really get this one to smoke, I thought that it might smoke a little with the 40 on it. So you think that with those mods that I could get by with only a TC and VB modification for everyday driving?

with the boxes you will need the injectors, I had DD3s (100hp) with the 40 and Drag Comp, your truck will SMOKE!!! once the turbo lights it will clear up pretty good, I put the 150hp injectors in and the smoke almost too much until the turbo lit then it was a slight haze when on the throttle. with the bombs that youre doing you will need to beef up the trans ASAP!!!! a stock trans wont hold to the additional hp!!

It also depends on where you want to go HP wise with your truck... . I enjoyed my HX40 ALOT, good power and reliability when towing but It just wasnt enough for my power addiction so I had to get rid of it.

I want to install the 100 HP injectors with the juice w/ att and then I am done. Seriously I wont go any further. My goal was to attemp to reach around 500HP. That may or may not get me there but that is as far as I am going. So do you think that I will be able to get by with only a beefed up TC and VB? The truck has almost 370K so I really dont want to grenade it, I would like to see just how far I can make it last. Just want to have fun with it since it is the first one that I have owned. The trans was just rebuilt recently before I purchased it so I think that the trans should be in decent shape. I would like to try to get by with only TC and VB.

here is a pic of my stock HY35 compaired to the PDR 16cm HX40:

500hp on a hx40 is a stretch, youre better off with a larger turbo than a 40 to get 500. a good 450hp would be a good place to set yourself. maybe some 150 sticks would be good also

on a side note I went from my DD3s (100hp injectors) to the NewEra 150s and I noticed my fuel milage went up with the 150s!! they clean up NICE! but can also black out a car behind you with no problem!! Im not sure how or why but they helped out yet were a larger injector  :D Im very happy AND they (NewEra 150s) were at GREAT PRICE

hope my info helps some

If you are looking for relibilty, I would go with somthing like the HTT HTBG. It will be stronger than the 40. You want to watch what 40 you are talking about some are not drop in turbos if that is what you are being told. If you need more down the road you can upgrade a HTBG for a few hundred, but with the 40 you will have to start over again.

Alright thanks guys. I have made my decision to go with the HX40 and the 100HP jammers. I already have a HX40 on the shelf so that is the main reason that I am not going any bigger because it is free! So you think that 450 HP with that setup is reasonable?

I have a 40 in my '02 and haven't had any problems. I have a few mods that should have me in the 450HP range, though I've never dynoed it. (HX40, Hot rod VP, Fass, 60hp inj. , ATS manifold, Edge comp, AFE intake w/ 4" exhaust) At WOT with my comp on 5/5 I barely reach 1000 deg on my pyro. Its on the back side of the turbo just in case, but if you figure another 200 to stay on the safe side, 1200 is cooler than alot of peoples... Lag is minimal, reacts about 200 rpm slower than the 35, but you will notice more top end. Where my 35 would run out about 2300 rpm, the 40 will carry to about 27-2800. Though I try not to run the rpm's that high.

So the next question is, do you think that the auto trans will hold up if I go ahead and replace the TC and VB with a suncoast before anything starts going downhill?

my truck only put down 396 hp with the mods in my sig. and yes the trans is a must. a t/c and v/b are a good place to start.
