Don't even think twice about doing it. Do your HX40 a favor & plug one of these babys on it. You won't believe the difference. I didn't & just got done putting the stock box back on to verify.
Spool up is bunches better. Turbo lag ... what turbo lag.
It use to have a noticeable lag, but I didn't care. The benefit was worth the HX40. But now, it's as good or better than what I remember about the HX35! Boost is higher now at steady speeds & the slightest throttle change instantly increases boost. Previously, you waited for the boost to catch up while you smoked. Not any more. 
Just to make sure I was starting from a good baseline, I cleaned the K&N, so it is not like I was starting with a 'plugged' filter. EGT is 50 degrees cooler running 70mph with the cruise control. I haven't run the mileage check yet, but that's coming. It seems that I have to barely keep the throttle open to run 70 now, so I'd guess mileage will be up.
The stock airbox is clearly restricting the HX40. Your HX40 will be happy, but your rear tires won't.
