I put a Edge comp on my buddies 2002 and as you would expect he cant use it long before egt goes through the roof. Will a Hx 35 from any year truck work on his 02 auto? There is one in the classified that I was thinking might work. Or I thought about selling him mine off of my 99 and upgrading to an HX40.

It will work but won't help much. I'd save my time and money and buy one from Piers, 35 or 40 depending on the plans he has for the truck.

It would seem to help quite a bit, because with a comp I dont have EGT problems. He probably wont do any more mods, at least not untill he spends some bucks on his transmission.

It's not just the turbo.....

The exhaust housing will need to be changed also. Between a slightly larger turbo and the 12cm² housing it should help a little. At least in how fast it gets there.

I’m happy with the PDR HX35 for general drivability. I usually run the Comp on 2/1 to control smoke, though the smoke is not as bad as one might think with DDIII’s. Anyway, the HX35 with 4” exhaust actually runs cooler (when it was stock except for EZ, 4” exhaust and HX35) than stock did. I haul a Lance camper and tow occasionally about 10k lbs. , and can run it hard yet keeping the temps in control. However, if you want to run the Comp at 4 or 5, the HX35 isn’t going to cut it as far as EGT’s are concerned (at least with injectors too). Fun for a few seconds, but it gets too hot to keep your foot in it for long (Of course that’s with DD3’s, so you might not have a problem until you install injectors, - and you will! :D Naturally, through the course of upgrading, you will surpass the optimum functionality of previously installed components; it’s just the nature of the beasts. . Bombs away.

I switched

I have a 02 4wd. at first I put GUAGES then 4" exaust a in box filter and drilled the box. With no other mods I put a PDR HX35 (12cm). The first mods lowered the EGT about 50-75. with the PDR HX 35 the EGT went down about another 150 degrees. I then put a ez box. witht towing, cabover ect It is now VERY difficult to get near the 1300 egt degrees. The main awsome benifit with the PDR HX is it spooled quicker than the HY. Without the ez the truck ran ALOT better. now with the EZ the truck rips I AM HAPPY!!!!!

If you got the money I think the PDR HX35 is the way to go!

You guys are missing the point a bit. The question is, Would a 2002 auto with the little turbo benefit from a hx35 off of somebody elses truck that upgraded to say an hx40. This guy probably wont do anything else besides the Comp. Are all Hx35's the same from 94 up, or would it have to come off of a 24 valve?

More then likely not, the wastegate needs to be disabled to let him have around 25-30psi with the HY. The HX will suffer from lag, experience of the same swap proved this to me.

No, the oil line is a little different, nothing else to hard to figure out.

If he is just DIEING for more air, Piers HX35 is the best thing.

I don't agree.......

I went from a HY-35 to a PDR HX-35/14 and lost 2 pounds of boost. Switched to a 12 housing and got better spool up and gained about 1# of boost. In your statement above I feel it would be more correct to say it is cooler air, not necessarily more.

Of course I have a fixed fueling rate. EZ & DD'2s. It's hard to figure for the comp because of the radical amount of change in fueling. On mild the gain would be minimal versus wild where it would probably help more.

On a side note, is it true you still haven't hooked up your comp wire? That's discipline!!

Garrett,

My statment about more/cooler air was ment like this, cooler air is less dense, so there can be more of it. Right?

I have not gotten my transmission upgraded yet, so no I have not. Discipline is a wonderfull thing to have sometiems. :D
