Today, after washing the gril i decided to check the turbo blade's for dirt, found very little BUT,i also found part of the impeller just behind the nut fractured off,a good size chunk. (maybe from being over torqued)Less then 8,000 miles on truck. Now it's got to go to that dam 5 spit dealer. #ad
So keep a lookout.

there was a clearance problem on some HY35 turbos. I know Sig in Gig Harbor had his replaced a few months ago.

Do a search using Sig as the author

Thank's Bob,did check those back post but i think this problem is a little different as the blade's are ok and the shaft and lateral end play are ok,it's the casting just behind the lock nut for the impeller, about 1/3 of it is gone. We will see.

Hey guys I don't know if this would help but there is a very low milage one for sale on ebay. Not sure what the price is up to now but it was only $30 last night. Has a picture of it and it looks like new!!! Email for further if you can't find it.

My 01. 5 same problem. Haven't gotten it fixed yet. The local dealer wants me to jump thru alot of hoops so I am going back to where I bought the truck. Be ready for alot of B. S. !!! Chris

Well' took it to the dealer, had to go to two befor i could find someone that would look at it,they said it was a balance cut. "WHAT" has anyone ever heard of this, just seems like a strange place to balance something that spins so fast.

Haven't heard of that, but could be true. get a second opinion.

It it were not a balance cut, one would think it's now out of balance and you would have grenaded by now.

I suspect they might be right. If it wasn't a balance cut, I would think that one, the turbo would have bombed by now and two, if a piece that large did break off there would probably be additional damage. I also agree with getting a second opinion (Holset).

Yes, it is a balance cut or something of that
matter! My HX-35 has the same thing. If the
turbo had a chunk out of it that sucker would
be so out of balance it would self-destruct!

I just looked at mine. There is a small half
circle cut right next to the nut. That is
normal! You don't have anything to worry
about.

I have a picture of mine, if you want I will
email it to ya. .

Looked at it again tonight just dosen't look right for a balance cut, just look's too rough, will try to call holset and maybe try and see another dealer #ad
... . CHRIS if you can send that picture i would sure like to see it. Thank's everyone. #ad

Here ya go, check this out:

impeller closeup

This image was taken when my truck was new.
It now has over 21,000 miles and the turbo
is fine. I'm sure the notch is supposed to
be there. The white smudge on one of the
blades is paint or some marking that aids
in the balancing process as well.

Notice that the silencer ring is AWOL too! #ad
