Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) HY35 to a HX35 Question

i am thinking about going to a HX35, will i see a EGT difference and if so how much? or am i wasting my time and money?

What temperatures are you running now? Do you use the higher levels on your comp?

it will run as high as 1350-1450 if i let it get there,

i run the box on 3x5 and sometimes on 4x5

on level 5x5 it will slip the trans a little so i dont go there often

I went from the hy35 to piers hx35 hybred with 14cm exhaust housing & it made a difference of 100* with my set up & towing heavy. Spool up was a little slower, lost a little bottom end but gave me more useable top end when pulling a long grade.

Going to just a stock HX 35 would not help a whole lot BUT like what Glen said going to a PRD 35 and a 14cm wastsegated would be a good start.

I belive that there is a 16cm for the HX35. The 14cm with wastegate is a good safety future so you don't overboost your truck.

well iam getting 40lb now with the box on 4x5.

If memory serves, ... the HY has a 9 cm housing & can't be upgraded. The HX comes with different size housings. 10 cm in the 245 hp, 12 cm in most other stock applications but 14 & 16 are popular upgrades. The larger the housing the greater the flow on the top end, traded for longer spool up time. If your making 40 lb boost, your pushing the turbo very hard. That probably explains the high temps. You definatly need to up grade but I'n not sure what's optimal. Janetty recomends 12 for most street applications. DD recomends 16 & I've got a ported 14 ready to try. Good luck & enjoy your truck.
