1) how many of you have used the 22 shell method of blocking off the wastgate?

2) Is there any way that the 22 shell could be sucked up into the turbo?

Well I think I invented the 22 shell method of disabling the waste gate and I have to say that I have had no problems. I have roughly 8K miles with the same 22 shell in there.

I do not believe that there is any way the shell could be sucked in to the turbo as the pressure the turbo generates is pushing the shell into the hardline.

Good luck and happy bombing.

I tried to use the 22 shell method, but the shell wasn't an exact fit for my hardline. By the time I got done filing the shell down, there wasn't much left of it - so I had to come up with something else.

I decided to use the turnbuckle method on mine (Like JR2 and the 22 shell, I came up with the turnbuckle method). If you are running 32# or less max. boost, you won't hurt anything by using this method. I think it goes on and comes off faster than any method out there. I can have it off is less than 30 seconds, once the wrench is in my hand. Only takes about 2 minutes to put on once you've done it a couple of times. Good luck!

I too had to hand sand the 22 shell down to tin foil gauge and after that still 20 PSI max

went to zman's turnbuckle method and now 30+PSI :)

Time to decide

I like the turnbuckle ;)

I have to admit that if I was doing it again that I would probably use the turnbuckle.

For those of you trying the 22 shell, take a small rat tail file and stick it in the hardline and give it a few twists, there is small ridge inside from when they cut the tubing. Once you do that the shell fits real good, just tap it in with a hammer. I can hit 40 lbs with all the toys turned on...

No do not plug the brass elbow. If you buy any of the assortment of boxes out there they all come with replacment brass elbow that is partially blocked to let the boost build up.

As stated in other threads, disabling the waste gate on the HY35 is not the best thing you can do. It will reach 40 psi, but it gets real hot. It was reccomended to me to try to adjust the waste gate opening pressure by adjusting the rod that actually opens the waste gate. I am going to try the next time I am in town.
