2001 2500 4 whl drive 6 speed trans: driving home I experienced a complete clutch failure. Pedal goes to the floor with no resistance, does not disengage the trans. Got home by rpm shifting. Had to start the truck at a red light in gear; scary.

Reading the factory manual this master cylinder, lines and slave cylinder is considered one item with no separate replacement.

Can this be the problem? Mileage is 82k with original clutch.

I am a remodeling contractor hauling a 6k tool trailer.

Suggestions please as I am dead in the water.

It is an easy replacement, best price I found for mine was at Save Big @ Mopar4Less.com!! - Full Line Of Mopar Parts - Be sure to ask for "internet parts"! Even with overnight shipping they beat local Dodge dealer. You might be able to "pump up" the clutch for awhile. Before you twist the master cylinder out of the firewall be sure to pull out the plastic pin that is under the dash. You will see it while disconnecting the rod from the pedal and the wire harness.

NAPA has the individual cylinders. They don't have bleeders on them though so it can be difficult to bleed. It's probably the master cylinder. It may have just popped out of the firewall or the flange broke off - look on your firewall down below the brake master cylinder and you should be able to see the clutch master cylinder - see if it's against the firewall or loose. You can release the rod from the lever with a clip that you pull off. I replaced my master recently and I just filled the cylinder with fluid and had the line full of fluid. I held the reservoir to the cylinder level with the output of the cylinder so that fluid came up to the lip and put them together quickly (then rinsed the area down with water quickly to rinse off any spilled fluid).

I want to give a big thanks to the replies to my need.

I ended up getting the whole kit from the local dealer ($252. 00 + tax) and it went well except for under the dash. That was a backbreaker.

Major lesson if you ever refer to the factory service manuals. Make the connection of the hydraulic line and the slave cylinder prior to installing the slave cylinder to the clutch housing. Other than that, piece of pie.

I had the same problem on my truck last week at 127k. I wanted to upgrade to the SBC hydraulics, but time and money were not in my favor. After pricing the setups at local parts stores, I ended up using a buddy's corporate account to get it from a Dodge dealer near my work. I was able to get the Mopar kit for about the same as what Advance wanted.

It was a little bit of a pain to snake all the parts out from around the brake booster lines, but over all it really wasn't bad. As a side benefit, my NV5600 now shifts less bad than it used to.
