i want to put full hydro steering in my 46 willys project. Where is the best place to sorce the parts. I was thinking that maybe Northern had a setup for a self centering system, but i didn't find anything. What are you guys running? how do you like it?

Thanks,

try boyce military axels (just search the web). They are real pricey but start talking to guys like that to get an idea of what you want. All you need is a charrlynn orbital valve and a hydrolic power unit, electric or live off of the engine. Haisley also deals with that kind of stuff. The charrlynn valve on my mod truck is self centering but will not center on its own with the spool and wide pulling tires on the front. When buying a charrlynn valve you need to watch out for the rate of turning so it doesnt turn to rappid or to slow. If you want you can pm me and I could give you the part # on mine as it seems pretty close to a stock vehicle.

It is ALOT more involved then the post above. What are you thinking? Your steering quickness on your valve depends on gpm, so your charr-linn valve should work diffrently then it on his pump. There are HUNDREDS of diffrent options for steering valves, and 90% of them can kill somone of you try to use them on a vehcile like ours. Do your research before you buy anthing, and this is a very long topic btw.

Ok the limo has/will have full hydrostatic steering, driven mostly on the street. Before you go and buy stuff randomly that "might" work, goto http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/PR-Hydro_Steering/index.html. Read everything in that untill you inderstand every part of it. There are TONS of storys on pirate4x4.com about people doing their steering wrong and somone gets hurt. Do you want to kill a family because your 50 dollar cheaper used part from ebay failed? Or you took adivse like above, "Try my valve, it might work for you. " I dont. I doubt most "normal" people do.

I talked with PSC about my setup. Good todo buisness with. But in the end I went with Sean @ Performance Off-road. He is a VERY very smart guy, and his product is in every 4x4 magazine. Go look. Most likley on the cover vehicles also. I have about 4 hours on the phone logged talking with him BEFORE I purchased my entire system. Top notch, 100% the best you can buy IMO.

What was I thinking?I was thinking mine works great on my truck. And if you notice I said starting talking to people (just like you did) to try an figure out what he needs. And I never made the claim mine could be run or should be run on the street. I was offering my part # because my valve is adjustable for the quickness in the steering. But I guess because you seen it on a cover truck or in a magazine its the best-right. My pulling truck probably steers as good or better than most show trucks I know of-hence is why1/2 of them are trailerd.

Another vote for PSC. I have to say that, because i sell it, but I also like to say that because it the kits do work very well. In a full-hydro setup, there are a LOT of factors to take into consideration (some were hit on above, and the link to Billavista's article is a great starting place... and possibly ending place). Cobbling together a system may work well if you research the pieces and make sure that you match many or all of the factors. And sometimes you just get plain lucky :)

Good luck, and if you need anything, let me know. Late response, but I just got out of the 3rd Gen forums and found this area of the site LOL
