04.5 Turbo upgrade

FASS problem fixed, Thanks Brad

Recommendations? This is for a 2003 with a 3600lb Dual Disk. I've managed to wear out the Master Cylinder in a few weeks; not surprised by that. It had weak engage/disengage when it was stock.

I've heard going to the 94->97 master cylinder is the way to go? Is there anything better?

the 12V (94-97) Slave Cylinders :p :-laf are twice the size of the 24V (98-up) Slave Cylinders so they are more desireable to run with a Dual Disk that needs more pressure to disengage.

Are you saying there's something better about 12v's? Oo.

Big Mak,

I recently had my Master give up the ghost on my 04. 5.

I run the 3850lb setup.

I don't know if there is something better than the 94-97 setup.

But, thats what I am running now.

I am still in the tuning process getting the new Master/clutch rod adjusted correctly.

What you will need to do is cut the shorter rod up towards the pedal side and (3/8") thread each end.

Then between the 2 add a double ended nut (approx 1" long), like the type used on all thread.

Also, add a small locking nut so you don't have travel once adjusted.

Your pedal will sit lower in the cab by about 4".

The setup is tougher overall.

DO NOT mess with the slave rod, it is self adjusting.

The Master is the one that needs cut.

Also for best price purchase the new kit (master and slave) for 94-98 trucks from EEP.

They are right around $130.

If anyone is running a DD in a 3rd gen and has not popped a master yet, you are on borrowed time.

So I suggest having the new unit laying around.

Glad to hear your back up and running Justin.

Had the master and slave replaced. I'm back running again. It gave up the ghost on the way to work; so I took it straight to the shop that did my install and they sorted it out for me. ($$$) If I'd realized it was hydraulics I'd have done the work myself. I originally thought it was internal and figured they'd need to drop the transmission again.

We first tried the slave cylinder only; but it needed both. Still couldn't get the clutch to fully release with just the new slave cylinder. Kind of makes me wonder if it ever did fully release with the stock hydraulics. I have a-lot less chatter going into gear with the setup now. But the release point is at the top of the clutch vs the bottom. Maybe that's due to the length of the rod; I think I'll take it apart and shave some more off; because right not that's a LOT of travel. But I'll get used to it so it doesn't matter much. It depends on how much travel you actually -need-. I. e. at what point are you no longer moving hydraulic fluid and just pushing pedal? Anyone know?
