I have an early 04, 3500 4x4 (55,000 miles) that I (dealer actually) just replaced the Hydro-Boost unit on. In my case it was leaking into the cab and pooling on the drivers side floor.

Is this common?

Would any of the standard Factory warranties have covered this (dealer said no)?

Do I need to look out for other issues now that it has been replaced?

How do you clean ATF out of the carpet and padding?

Thanks.

Mine failed at about 30K, but it was a bad steering gearbox that did it. Dodge warranty replaced the steering gearbox, powersteering pump, and hydro-boost all at the same time.

look out for dealers with techs on Flat rate that will just install fill with fluid and let it bleed itself which damages the power steering pump that supplies pressure to the steering box and hydro boost system. Makes sure all the lines are flushed out good and only run Mopar ATF 4. some of the other powersteering fluids and ATFs contain teflon with clogs the filter screens on these systems and restricts the suction side of the power steering pump. I learned this the hard way and also learned that YOU DO NOT WANT TO RUN A ADVANCE AUTOPARTS POWER STEERING PUMP. my friend is on his 3rd on his older ford and I gave up on advance after using 3 of their pumps within 600 miles odometer reading. diesel trucks (mine weighs 8,000lbs CAT Certified) are not fun to steer with out power steering and it is down right dangerous in parking lots. Also AGR Performance told me that the pumps on these 3rd generation dodges are the same thing ford used at one time or a still using he wasn't clear. Therefore that explains why the pump problems... fords just plain suck and if you have a ford or like them then why are you on TDR unless you got tired of your ford/navistar powerjoke and swapped in a cummins? thank you and shut up.

as for cleaning out the carpets The best thing you can do is throw them away and when you tear them out clean the ATF that is still stuck on the sheet metal under the carpet. I honestly have a few shirts that took a bath in transmission fluid and I always know which ones they are cuz the atf smell of which I like so much. I love the smell of the different oils ( i have even gotten used to the strong smelling straining the shop in stink GM LSD additive that I believe is actually whale semen or it smells like it has somethings semen in it and they do use whale semen in some of the additives). I had 5 work shirts I washed them all the time 2 off which have transmission fluid and I always know which ones even though I cannot see the stains (dark blue work shirts). so tear apar the interior and throw out those carpets, but make sure to replace with new carpets if you plan on driving barefoot or talking on the cellphone or to some sitting next to you.
