Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Hydro-Boost

Has anyone had any luck getting a seal kit for the hydro-boost unit I have one that is leaking from the vent hole which is the main seal and seems no one makes a seal for it .

to my knowledge no one offers a seal kit for DIY use because supposedly you need specialized tools. There are several rebuilders who will take you unit on deposit and rebuild it/ship you a rebuild. Cost however when I checked seemed similar to buying a new unit!

And an afterthought: I found when I had to replace my HB that it would at times get pretty dang hot. Since mine failed similar to yours- leak at the vent hole from seal failure (mine drained the P/S reservoir), I decided to add a rail cooler to the return circuit (booster to P/S tank) to cool things down and preserve the seals. Its too soon for me to say this was genius or dumbass but things are ALOT cooler and the older generation trucks had one for the P/S anyway!!!

Thanks for the reply I took it apart and it is really very simple the only thing is you can not get the seals for it a new one from Dodge retails for 650. 00 I can get one for 450. 00 from my Dodge dealer but thats to dang high I finally went to Napa and got one for 244. 00 and thats to high also but what are you going to do I will keep looking I might give the cooler a try as you are right about it getting hot.

Up till about 3 years ago you could get a kit from GM for about $25. They finally discontinued them though. The chevy ford and dodge all use the same hydroboost units, they just have different brackets and accuating rods.

I just upgraded to a Vanco hydroboost. Very noticeable improvement in braking response and ability, slight improvement in steering effort. Only complaint is that the first unit they sent was bad, which i'd paid to have installed, had to pull apart a few times myself, and ultimately had to swap again myself but they've been super flexible in working with me and sending a new unit no charge.

Where did you get the Vanco unit and how much was it.

I have the same problem with the hydro-boost leaking. Just got through PMing Sam Peterson, a TDR member, when I stumbled across your post. Searching previous threads, it looks like he was able to provide the rebuild kits awhile back. Might give him a try. His # is 360-357-4958 or you can find him in the member list out of Washington state.
