Has anyone used the power programmer on there truck with another module already plugged in? Like the powermax 3

I ordered it for my 2001 so I can adjust the transmission for the oversize tires and the gear change. It will also fix the speedo.

Any info would be great! The tech said do not use the program because it could ruin the engine. I don't see how

kurtl,

I am currently running an Edge EZ with the SuperChip's program installed. Been running this way for approx 1,500 miles, so far no problems. I like the way my truck runs using both, also have RV 275's. I can get a pretty good smoke show if I don't watch what I'm doing. I know my max boost pressure went up 2 lbs after installing the SuperChip program. Also noticed my mpg went up, but not sure what is causing this as I just hit 19K and recently installed the 275's and SuperChip. Can't see how the HyperTech programmer would be much different than the SuperChip.

Take care,

Casey

Hoof Hearted,

I am also running the EZ Edge with the Powermax 3. I don't know if the engine can handle another module.

What can happen? JUST A LITTLE MORE SMOKE :D :D :D

Does the hypertech adjust timing? If so it might be a little too radical with an ez or va or ect, adjusting it too. That'd be the only thing I'd be too worried about. It'll probably stress the vp more to, but so does stacking other boxes and a lot of people do that including me. Hopefully some more people that have tried it will chime in with an answer.

kurtl,

Since you are already running "stacked" I doubt you'd get any more hp/tq from adding the HyperTech. Isn't the Powermax 3 about the same as the Edge Comp? At this point, if you want more power, if I were you, I'd consider bigger injectors. Find out the max you can run with your current turbo or upgrade that as well. Sounds like you're skating, not sliding, down that slippery slope of bombing your truck, lol. I'd take the $ you would spend on the HyperTech and apply it towards something that will give you a bigger bang for your buck.

Take care,

Casey

If I understand the specs. on the HPP it allows you to choose between three power levels and also records your baseline stock program and allows you to return to it if you like. It also lets you read and clear codes and, the option that got my attention, it lets you reset your computer for anywhere up to a 44" tire. I have been lookin for a code reader that would work on my truck and to be able to get a little more power and reset the speedo would be a bonus. Looks like I'll be the guinea pig and have to try one of these things out:) I'll post my results when I have them. Looks like Summit has the best price.

I found the best price on the hypertech at truckstuff.com, for $300 shipped. I've also been using the hypertech and superchips programmers for about 6 months, and have dynoed both. I will hopefully get my article in the next issue of the TDR as the results were quite surprising.

rholte,

As far as the tuners, Hypertech & Superchip, did you dyno with an EZ or such with the program installed?

Casey

Hoof Hearted,

I dynoed with an ez and a comp box with and without a boost elbow, to give an even comparison.

Stacking does no good!

So what you are saying is stacking an EZ with a Comp does not produce better dyno numbers??? I am confused???

I read this on HyperTech's site in the FAQ:

Does Power Tuning work with modified vehicles?

Hypertech Power Tuning is calibrated for stock or near-stock engines (engines equipped with high-flow air filters and cat-back exhaust systems). Any additional modifications that alter the engine's airflow and volumetric efficiency, such as installing a modified mass airflow sensor, high-lift or long-duration camshaft, ported heads, headers, supercharger, nitrous oxide, etc. , would require new tuning. This tuning must be done individually on a dynamometer with a vehicle equipped with those parts. If you have modified your engine with aftermarket equipment other than a low-restriction air filter or cat-back exhaust, the Power Tuning developed for a stock engine may not be correct. Note that the Power Programmer III provides many additional benefits beyond Power Tuning. Depending on the application, you can adjust the engine's rev limiter, raise the top speed limiter to match the speed rating of factory-approved tires, adjust the transmission shift points and shift firmness, correct the speedometer and odometer readings for non-stock tires and rearend gear ratios, and adjust the on/off temperature for electric cooling fans. That's why we say that a Hypertech Power Programmer III is the most powerful performance product an enthusiast can own!

I think he dyno'd with the hypertech and EZ, and with the hypertech and comp installed together.

I am running the Hypertech without my VA right now, but plan on hooking the VA back up and seeing what happens with them together. I do know, that you can't load up the hypertech with the VA plugged in, it will say it loaded, but your truck will not run right.
