Advance Construction Alert: I-70 Eisenhower Tunnel Paving Project to Cause Major Traffic Impacts
Starting on September 10th, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will begin work to pave both bores of the Eisenhower Tunnel on Interstate 70. This work is expected to cause major impacts to I-70 mountain travel and has been scheduled when traffic volumes are at their lightest so as to minimize the motorists’ delays. Please note the upcoming traffic restrictions necessary for this work:
September 10th, 2006 at 10 p. m. until September 15th, 2006 at 10 a. m.
The westbound (north) tunnel with be completely closed to traffic. Traffic will use the eastbound (south) tunnel and run one lane in each direction.
September 15th at 10 a. m. until September 17th at 10 p. m.
Both tunnels will be open for the weekend and there will be no lane restrictions.
September 17th at 10 p. m. until September 22nd at 10 a. m.
The westbound (north) tunnel with be completely closed to traffic. Traffic will use the eastbound (south) tunnel and run one lane in each direction.
September 22nd at 10 a. m. until September 24th at 9 p. m.
Both tunnels will be open for the weekend and there will be no lane restrictions.
September 24th at 9 p. m. until September 29th at 9 a. m.
The eastbound (south) tunnel with be completely closed to traffic. Traffic will use the westbound (north) tunnel and run one lane in each direction.
Overwidth Load Restriction: During the time these closures and restrictions are in place, overwidth loads that are eleven feet and wider must use U. S. 6 over Loveland Pass as they will not be allowed to travel through the tunnel.
