I just Bought a 1996 4x4 ex cab duelly, it has 225,000 on it has the kdp fixed, e brake , guages and some motor work, I think a different cam plate timing adj. But that will change in a phew weeks, I am getting 3000 gov kit, delevry valves and see how it runs, and it is a five speed. just thought I would share. And I will be looking in this fourm more. Justin

I agree with Forrest - go for the 370s 1st then do the DVs later if necessary.

delivery valves would be a very noticible improvement, especially on a 94 night and day difference but i agree the 370s first
 
Congrats on the truck JBrookshire! I am a recent convert to 12-valves, after having 3 24-valvers, the most recent being an '03.



I wouldn't rush into getting a 3GSK. I've had a couple people tell me you don't really need it on the 215 motors, since they pull good to 3000RPM as-is (at least mine does). When I hold it to the floor in neutral it goes to 3400, so at least on the upper end it's close to the previous trucks I had.



I am running 300 injectors right now but don't think much of them (way too much blue smoke). I'm going to swap them for a set of BD injectors :)



There is a lot you can do with stock injectors, or milder injectors like what BD offers. You can have good power with the advantage of a cleaner injector. 370s are popular but there's a few minor drawbacks.

Sorry for stepping on toes but a 12V needs 3 things, a plate, 3 or 4K's and timing.



I can take a 96-98 5 speed and make it spooky with a #10, 3K's, a little timing and a 16 housing, funny thing is they don't smoke much and they are clean on boost, Not towing power thought!

Welcome to the 12v club. The plan to up the 12v is good. I went with the #4 plate, 3000 gov & afc spring kits, plus the timing at 15 3/4. I go thru a Dave Goerand prepared auto with a triple disc converter. The 4" exhaust does its job of those who follow to close.

I put 350 hp to the ground.

It doesn't take much to wake up these sleeping giants. Have fun!

I'm thinking about injectors next. Does anyone have suggestions for a daily work truck?

215 pumps dont de fuel until about 2600-2700 i tightened the springs on my friends 96 two clicks and noticed a small difference then he bought a 3k kit and noticed nothing more than when i tightened them. then he went to a 4k and that was a nice addition.

this is my favorite truck 1st was 99ctd 2nd 03ctd 3rd 97ctd and i like this one the most. although the new ones are nice i got tired of paying for it. :) some advice listen to jim... ... piers 370's, no plate, spin wheel, 16housing, clutch, and one eye on the pyro and boost. your truck can make 450-500hp easy.



ideal world would be clutch, ht2b, 370's, 0plate, 4gsk, 16 timing
 
You guys are bad friends.

Not really just giving me bad ideas,I still have the 01 I just came across this truck and got a real good deal, like 10,000$. It has new paint and looks sharp. and I was also wanting a 4x4 so i talked my self into it . I will see how it runs when I get these mods done, The guy doing them says you dont need inj he can make these run just as good with out them. But he designed the cummins motor and was a engeneer for cummins and is retired now and works on them at his house. He re programed my ecm on my 01 and that made a big difference. But these 12 valves I like. It still dont rev as fast as my 24 valve but I just sold my moto cycle and now have some bombing $ to tinker on this 1996. I would like to make it able to hook to the sled, so you guys just keep the ideas rolling and if any body got some parts that could help let me now. And also is the 4000 gov kit hard on a motor like mine??Thanks Justin

4k GSK isn't hard on your motor, but it will allow YOU to be hard on it ;)



if you want to hook to the sled, most of your money will be spent on your clutch! :p

hey how'd i get this username, one thing will be done to danelles truck, the pump, gsk timing and rotate the b's... ... ... thats it and stock injectors, that is all the medicine that dang girl needs, prolly lookin for about max 400cc from 875-1750 pump r's... ... ... . that oughta do the trick for her
